I says let's have a YPN Audio Con 2002. I know it's not the same thing as meeting each other for real, but atleast we'll know how each of us sound like ? Well Most of us use linux, so i should maybe suggest a linux audio conferencing software .., but that would leave out the users who use windows .. . So i would suggest that we decide on a time we'll all be using windows, and so we can all chat at once .. . Most of us have windows 98/ME/XP on another partition anyway. We couldn't agree on a place , for the real YPN Con, so maybe we can have an audio one ? How About that ?.

hmm, maybe there is a Linux software which can connect with Windows apps?
whatever, it'll take a while until I get a windows installed, so I'm out of it if we're doing it with windows only stuff.
Nevertheless I really like the idea.

I think Gnome Meeting can connect with ms netmeeting...
Posted by KaGez on 15:44:00 09-04-2002
I think svara is right... I have to find my mic for that first tho! and, btw, Gnome Meeting also supports web cams, so we could maybe try that one out
I don't have one tho

I dont have a mic, i reckon text is fine, since my interenet connection is slow, i hate doin audio stuff.
Sorry
Posted by MoX on 18:55:00 09-04-2002
We can't even get anybody together in the chan. So, it would be irrational to assume we could get almost everybody together for an audio conference. I'd still like to do one, though.

yeah.. and that makes me remember my mic doesn't work.. i dunno why.. has been ages since i tried to get it work... maybe something has changed
i believe i was using alsa at the time, now it's oss...
Posted by KaGez on 20:26:00 09-04-2002
my mic worked for me before, with the emu10k1 module for my SB Live!, so I think most OSS sound modules will get mics workin, as long as there is a mic plug on your card

it will be shit. as ypn is all over the world...
but we should try....
Posted by KaGez on 17:35:00 09-05-2002
eh? why would it be shit because the YPN is all over the world? I don't get it :/
that's what these meeting progs are thought to be used for, or not? :/

He probably means the high ping times and stuff... Well, we all know all of lithuania is on a 56k backbone, so that will probably cause probs for him
Posted by KaGez on 20:51:00 09-05-2002
oh, ok
in such stoneage countries it may cause some huge probs, but in these "advanced" countries like german, US or japan you shouldn't have a big prob with doing audio/video conferencing

Australia, who havent even got electricity yet, our backbone would be a carrier pidgeon.

Well, I suppose the best I can do now is to record my best voice on an MP3 file and put it in a public place Then when I type text on IRC you can always gues what I sound like. It would work for those of us with .. er... bitrate-challenged internet connections!
Posted by sg on 15:21:00 09-07-2002
hehe, that would be a good idea, to record our voices, but it's still not the same as an audio conference ...
For those ypn members, that do not have small bandwith, i say we carry on with the audio conference .. shall we decide on a date?
Posted by KaGez on 22:15:00 09-07-2002
we should better decide on a date in IRC, because it will get kinda lengthy I think
[addsig]
Posted by MoX on 23:36:00 09-07-2002
yeah. I'll try to borrow a mic for tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I can get it so fast. If not, I can't join in before monday

I'm ready to go

we need to decide a date, in irc ... bbut not everyone knows about YPN Audio Con 2002, and some of those who do, need time to config
Net/Gnome (other) meeting software .. So YPN Audio Con 2002, cannot happen for atleast a week, what day will suit us ? I think Sunday would be best as i am free that day ... and most of the ypn members should be free too . Time and different timezones are yet to be discussed. I hope to have more feedback , to make a decision on a date ..., if not everyone can make it will be ok... I would like to propose that ... we should like have ypn meetings ? where the ops are there and any one free at that time can join in and discuss things ...
Posted by KaGez on 01:31:00 09-08-2002
if we're gonna do it on a sunday, I'd say that 12 or 11am GMT is best
[addsig]
Posted by sg on 01:59:00 09-08-2002
ok , here's the plan :
1) Anyone ..Wanting to take part in the YPN Audio Con 2002, should be in the #ypn channel between 11:00 am to 13:00 pm (gmt time). And should have gnome meeting or netmeeting configured..... we will then start the YPN Audio Con.
2) Proposed Date for YPN Audio Con 2002
(15th of September, 2002). I hope this provides .. everyone an oppurtunity to setup their hardware ..
3)If ypn members in the US cannot join, maybe we should delay it a little more, but the date should remain the same.

Good idea sg . Um, I need to know what time that is in Pacific time, and where can I get "Gnome Meeting"?
[addsig]
Posted by sg on 06:06:00 09-08-2002
i'm afraid i don't know, what time will that be in pacific time ..., probably 6 hours behind, but i'm not sure at all, so don't take my word for it.
2)You can get GnomeMeeting here ---->--> http://www.gnomemeeting.org (this is if you have linux), if you use windows get netmeeting 3.0 (search for it on google).
Posted by KaGez on 13:07:00 09-08-2002
erm.... the 13th? :/
that's no sunday afaik... sunday is the 15th afaik.

Posted by MoX on 20:03:00 09-08-2002
the us people will be able to join in later on, because we will probably audio-chat for hours and hours

kpyro:
if you noticed, he edited his post regarding that

Posted by sg on 06:24:00 09-11-2002
kpyro; Kagez is right ... , i made a slight mistaker and put the 13th as if it was sunday ... andyes i edited the post after Kagez pointed out the error ...
Posted by MoX on 15:21:00 09-11-2002
okay, I'll buy a mic on friday and will then be ready to go.
Hey, I just compiled gnomemeeting. Why don't we do a YPN videocon?

I bet there aren't as many people with webcams as with microphones.. I don't have a webcam, for instance.
Posted by MoX on 18:04:00 09-11-2002
Heh, I have a webcam but no mic...Will buy one, though.

Don't know, I like text chat very much. Guess that video conferences are a nice thing, but not for everyday use. Also, video/audio chatting with more than 6 or seven people must be hell confusing.
[addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 17:29:00 09-12-2002
not only hell comfusing, but killing your inet line too, even if you've got boradband! I mean, I had about 16kb/s incoming when I chatted with sg, and that was audio _only_!
[addsig]
Posted by MoX on 19:52:00 09-12-2002
really? Wow, that will kinda limit our audio con to some small audio chats, I suppose :/
[addsig]
Posted by sg on 00:45:00 09-13-2002
:/ ... well that is not a major issue, in my opinion, as far as this goes:
Quote:

i shouldn't think it should be that confusing, not if we introduce our selves first and so everyone in the conference will know who is speaking later on (i think that should work)
Posted by KaGez on 00:54:00 09-14-2002
hey, sorry guys, but it turned out that I don't have time on 15th
sorry to everybody I disapoint

Kagez ! (GREAT!!) .. as i was about to post and say that i would not be able to host it on the 15th, as i will not be home all day on Sunday, this was not expected by me ... too bad ... maybe we should fix another date ...
