I've got a request to put up a Wiki (or something wiki-like) for the YPN. It wouldn't be a bad idea, actually. This would make the YPN grow more automatically than today. Of course, it would be somewhat regulated, backups could be made of the pages etc..
Bpt says he and MooKeen are working on IAM, something wiki-like. If it could be fit into partyfish, it'd be ideal (assuming, of course, that IAM meets our needs).
As we'd probably get a zillion new sections pretty fast, and a lot of them for little or no use, all sections shouldn't be visible in the left hand menu. We could perhaps list the sections which already have a number of submissions in them?
Tell me what you think..

OK, it turns out that IAM would be a separate entity (just as wiki), so it couldn't be integrated into partyfish as a module. I don't know what you guys think, but I'm not very keen on throwing away partyfish to replace it with a wiki-like system. I'd like a combination of concepts.
Then I'm told I'm just stuck in old paradigms and that I am afraid of growth etc. etc. etc... So basically meet Péter, the conservative/fascist. Sigh..

Hello, fascist. I've heard about wikis, but I'm even more of an evil fascist than Peter, so I say that IRC is all you need. However, if we could make something useful of the page, that'd be great. I don't know anything about anything, don't count with me.

scandisk wiki
partyfish hooray
what can wiki do that partyfish can't? wiki will just make us loads more work. therefore I'm strictly against wiki or a wiki-like thing. If the users wanna have a new section, they can request it. we can think and sicsuss about it, and then create it on the fly. if you ask me, wiki is useless for communities where stuff should be aligned and clean (which it should be in our case). everybody can just put some shit in there, and we have to read it all everyday, just to see if there is some crap in there.
I'm against it. No matter what bpt and Mookeen say. if they wanna tell me that I'm afraid of evo/revolution, go stick that wiki stuff up their ass. period

It was wossname who brought it up, actually.. he's being quite fanatic about it .
However, a regulated version of something wiki-like wouldn't be bad at all, imho. It wouldn't need as much maintaineance as if every new suggestion would need to be processed by us.

wiki is one cool thing... as for what it can do what partyfish can't, i guess their aim is just totally different.
wiki can be a great tool for free communication and exchange of ideas...
but well, i don't really have the impression
that it would add greatly to YPN.. i mean, it wouldn't be much more than the "glossary bot" we had a while ago for us...
if peter meant sections and tutorials being organized by wiki, then i'm just plain against it...
see it from that point of view: WHAT exactly would our users add to the wiki? i can't think of many convincing things...

fsvara: good q . so I guess, discussion's over? I think it would be good to post something about it in the general forum, or at least have some kind of discussion with those who are championing wiki...

I guess a wiki could be used to write never-ending programming tutorials or something?
Posted by MoX on 18:58:00 09-15-2002
I would not outrule wiki generally, as long as it is regulated in some way. But to be honest, I don't know enough about it to estimate its use for YPN.

it has to be outruled... and who has to do that?

If we decide something, everyone in the crew should stand behind that decision. So it's not like "Péter scandisked it up" or "kage-chan hates progress"
Posted by sacah on 17:34:00 09-16-2002
We could just all blame it on sacah...
He'll never know whats goin on
(-;
Oh...
Wait..
No, lets not do that,
d-:
I never heard of wiki, and on top of that, i dont know what it is (Gasp everyone), so, i seconds Kagez on what ever decision he makes.
(-:
I am also talkin to HeavyJoost about combining his EBN with YSN, If so, we will have 3 admins, and may change the name etc, but as long as YPN does not fall apart from all admins fightin with each other, we will still be a sister site using partyfish.
Hint Hint
Posted by KaGez on 19:14:00 09-16-2002
that is EBN? :/
sorry, did I miss something?
anyways, I'm still against wiki

EBN is afaik the Electronic Builder Network or something like that. I told those guys that sacah wanted to do something similar and I hope that they will cooperate well

isn't it almost the same? I mean, would 1 page not be enough?
help me out
[addsig]
Posted by MoX on 21:10:00 09-16-2002
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Actually, when I spoke of cooperation, I meant that they should work together on _one_ site. Especially because YSN will use partyfish while the current EBN page looks like, well, you better look yourself

if somebody would post a URL I would look at it, sure

Posted by sacah on 16:50:00 09-17-2002
I spoke the heavyjoost, he doent want to cooperate, a few reasons.
1. he doesnt want to aim at just young ppl
2. this is part a programmin project, so he likes makin the web engine himself
3. he only wants the site about electronic builders
So, we shall see how it goes.

What's YSN? Is that your thing, sacah?
Posted by sacah on 21:30:00 09-18-2002
YSN is my 'thing' yes
(-:
Its a rather volatile thing...
Posted by KaGez on 01:58:00 09-21-2002
good luck with your 'thing'
Peter:
btw, since you're awsome fried trashed YDN, I will get it up after we're done coding on partyfish.

KaGez: sure, you do that. there's nothing wrong with my friend though.
Posted by KaGez on 22:41:00 09-24-2002
I didn't say that he is not ok, but he could have left a word or 2 informing us that he dropped it

Posted by Peter on 00:50:00 09-25-2002
Yeah, I agree. However he probably didn't know about the expectations, and meanwhile he switched schools so I seldom meet him.
Posted by sacah on 14:40:00 09-25-2002
kill him
