Posted by leeman_s on 09:06:00 08-28-2002
I used to do TONS of programming and always hung out at www.cprogramming.com. I just tried the address and it seems like it's shutting down, under construction, or just having technical problems. Anybody know whats up with that?

Did you change (upgrade, switch, reconfigure) your browser or your internet settings in any way? Whatever it is you changed, I suppose you might have to change it back

Or if you're using AOL, GET THE HECK OFF... that is if you have a choice. AOL always talks about how they're "number 1". An ISP that's number 1 wouldn't have really slow connections, constant disconnects, and errors right and left. Every now and then it locks up the computer too. Probably more often than that. [addsig]

nono, AOL _is_ the "number 1" provider! Just look at the list upside down!

They were in the middle of major upgrades. The board was still accessible through its IP, but it came back online after about 3 days...now the main site is back up, but the boards are offline while they upgrade to a new version. [addsig]

PC Magazine says most people are still on AOL, but everyone who is hates it. They got all negative ratings from people that polled. [addsig]

I mean, it's true that they... well... lollipop. Are you happy using AOL?

It was kind of fun three years ago, but mostly that was because we hadn't had internet before. Otherwise I have never been happy with AOL. You lose your connections all the time, and you're lucky if you can dial in without problems. And it's slow, we usually average around 3KB or less a second. I wouldn't mind having MSN. And since they're adding all the parental control stuff into their next version, which would make it more appealing to my parents to make a switch. [addsig]

Parental Control in Microsoft products means that MS takes control of your parents brains

But seriously, have we really come so far that there is no ISP for you except for MS and AOL?

I would rather live without internet than using those 2

Well, living without the internet would probably make me live without my comp. Hell, think of computing without at least email. You're alone all the time! And all information has to come from books...

Actually, I don't understand how I did it all years ago when I did not have internet access... [addsig]
