The bubbling cauldron >> What do you drink?
Posted by KaGez on 20:55:00 08-22-2002
OK, programmers = Caffeine
That's one of the most public view of peoples, but how about you? Do you prefer caffeinated drinks, if so, which ones? If not, what do _you_ drink?

I myself am a little caffeine bug, yes But, I prefer pepsi over cola I'd love to try one of these cool thinkgeek caffeine things, but, they're not imported to japan, and even if, only very rarely
(http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/caffeine/drinks.shtml)
So, I stick with pepsi, and coffee!

I drink water. Mmmm.... water. Soda can be good too, sometimes, but it's nothing I drink for breakfast.
Posted by JaZper on 21:07:00 08-22-2002
Ya, I suppose coffeeshops really are usefull for something, I don't drink, don't smoke, but gotta love them Bawlz ;P
Posted by dxprog on 23:51:00 08-22-2002
I drink water while I'm programming. Otherwise I like Sprite and Pepsi, especially Pepsi slurpee. I could go for one of those right now. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 01:16:00 08-23-2002
I don't know if that "Pepsi surplee" is the one we call "Pepsi Twist" here. it's pepsi with some lemon taste. also cool stuff
[addsig]
Posted by sg on 07:14:00 08-23-2002
In my view programmers = caffeine ... (definately) ! What i drink is Coke Light, and only that .... it is so refreshing. I have tasted Pepsi Twist , Kagez if you like pepsi twist taste Coke Light Lemon , i don't know if you get that in japan you should do, anyways coke light lemon is way better ..

Coke Light Lemon Rulez !!!!

Yeah, Pepsi Twist is good. Pepsi slurpee is basically frozen Pepsi slush. You haven't lived until you've had one. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 10:26:00 08-23-2002
why the heck are you drinking "light" stuff?! :/ I can't drink those. They taste somewhat.... yeah, strange :/
[addsig]
Posted by sg on 16:42:00 08-23-2002
Well the Coke Light, contains as much caffeine as the normal Coke , the light one just has less sugar. Why i drink light is because i drink a lot of coke OK !!!!!
Somtimes i even drink 3 - 4 cans of coke light (33cl) a day which is a lot ...

Posted by fsvara on 17:51:00 08-23-2002
but them "lgihts" still have a lot of that sugar-replacement stuff like aspartam...

well, i drink water usually, sometimes "soda" as robert said, too, tho i don't believe soda is the correct name, hehe... BASF (a german chemiistry company) actually stands for "bayrische (?) annilin und soda fabrik", and, hm, they weren't making water, but fine chemicals... whatever...

you guys here really abuse the caffeine remember, caffeine is a drug, too
Posted by KaGez on 21:52:00 08-23-2002
it is a drug, but one of the most harmless ones, and hard to get addicted to imho.
And, what you refer as "Soda" is actually called "Sparkling water" in most cases
[addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 00:11:00 08-24-2002
What the heck does "imho" stand for? [addsig]
Posted by Govtcheez on 01:09:00 08-24-2002
Retired or not, whatever.

Caffeine is one of the most highly addictive drugs out there (don't believe me? Go into an office building and remove all the coffee pots - see what happens). The effects aren't nearly as severe as other drugs, so it's nto a huge deal either way. If you want to play the semantics game - a drug's a chemical that affects you, right? Everything's a drug, then.

Anywho -
Diet soda/pop == suX0r
Lemon soda/pop == suX0r
Mountain Dew or Dr. Pepper == nectar of gods

Although, I've found myself drinking a lot moer water and juice while coding recently.

oh yeah, and IMHO == in my humble opinion
Posted by KaGez on 01:18:00 08-24-2002
IMHO = in my honest opinion

Dr.Pepper is also cool I like it, but can't find it anymore over here.

I feel kinda dumb debating this with someone whose native language isn't English, but it's In My Humble Opinion... In my Honest Opinion doesn't really make much sense.

If you don't believe me, ask ESR

kagez - mh, caffeine addiction is very dangerous, think of "frau pracht" for example

as for soda.. that's an almost controversial topic.. of course, when you say "soda water", normal people understand you mean sparkling water. but, give a chemist soda water, and he'll think you want to poison him Soda is, originally, Sodium carbonate, CNa2O3.
Posted by KaGez on 02:11:00 08-24-2002
and, that is poisonous!
[addsig]
Posted by Peter on 07:24:00 08-24-2002
I don't usually drink caffeinated drinks. When I did, I preferred Jolt. Or perhaps a cappucino with a lot of milk and sugar .

Nowadays, I prefer miscellaneous fruit juices (100% fruit juice, no aroma crap), or water. Oh, and sometimes tea . I don't like soft drinks, they're so full of sugar..
Posted by KaGez on 18:08:00 08-24-2002
hmmmm.... juice rox too!
I like almost all kind of juices. They taste cool
also, lately I'm into milk! don't ask me why, but I just like a huge glass of milk in the morning
[addsig]
Posted by MoX on 19:46:00 08-24-2002
Yeah, milk for breakfast, (sparkling) water while programming. Sometimes I like a coke or a nice pepsi, too, but I think I'll switch to apple juice mixed with sparkling water, soon

Also, after long nights with some (lots) of alcohol tea is the definitely the best thing for me.

I knew "in my humble opinion" and I'm no native as well ;P [addsig]

I always drink two or three glasses of milk when I eat. And when we barbeque we usually have cool-aid. Otherwise ice water is the perfect programming drink. It's even better when listening to John Williams. [addsig]
Posted by MoX on 04:31:00 08-25-2002
Apfelschorle _is_ for programming. [addsig]
Posted by Peter on 22:09:00 08-25-2002
Yeah, juice is definitely good for programming . If you mean the lack of caffeine, well, I never felt I need caffeine for programming or staying up late..

Ah, forgot: soy milk with whatever flavor is a very nice drink.
Posted by KaGez on 00:06:00 08-29-2002
I also don't drink caffeine stuff for keepin me awake... that doesn't work anyways I can drink liters of coffee, and still sleep when I want to
it's just that all thse caffeinated drinks taste cool
[addsig]
Posted by MoX on 01:02:00 08-29-2002
Yeah, does not keep me up, neiter. I like the taste of coffee, but I can't drink more than two cups. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 01:16:00 08-29-2002
no, only caffeinated drinks won't make up my life either
[addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 02:31:00 08-29-2002
I can't stand the taste of coffee. I make a cappuccino for my mom every day but you won't catch me drinking the stuff. I can usually keep myself awake anyways. [addsig]
Posted by fsvara on 04:50:00 08-29-2002
caffeine is in my opinion better for getting up that staying up late... and, i usually prefer tea to coffee. like green tea for example, that's not bad.
Posted by KaGez on 12:11:00 08-29-2002
caffeine in the mornin doesn't help me much either
[addsig]
Posted by MoX on 16:54:00 08-29-2002
Yeah, and that´s the real trouble. No problem to stay up until sunrise but _getting up_ is what is really hard in my op... [addsig]
Posted by fsvara on 17:42:00 08-29-2002
yeah.. you just need to have something to do to stay up really long... there are some people who can really easily get up, no matter how early... for me that's impossible.. i could sleep till 10 o'clock every day... i HATE being woken up by anything other than the sun...
Posted by KaGez on 19:28:00 08-29-2002
lol, not even in germany the sun arises at 10am
anyways, I also can't get out of bed that easily, but even caffeine doesn't help me much there.
[addsig]

Methinks the best approach it to avoid all stimulants. The truth is, we always pay back the time you 'gain' by taking these stimulants. If there's no caffeine addiction (yes, I meant addiction) we can be productive without drugging our bodies. A well-managed body is generally more alert and its quite easy to get a lot of work done.

Ok, my style was a bit 'preachy' but I really believe what I said ...
Posted by MooKeen on 00:47:00 08-30-2002
I used to drink some sodas and coffee, but due to some recent health problems, I've been drinking about 7 glasses of water a day, not counting (100%) fruit juices.
Posted by dxprog on 23:03:00 08-30-2002
Yikes! [addsig]
Posted by Govtcheez on 23:08:00 08-30-2002
To get my caffeine fix in the last few days, I've been relying on caffeine pills... Just poppin' one in the morning makes a lot more pleasant cheez for the rest of the day.
Posted by KaGez on 23:32:00 08-30-2002
hehe, did you already try the caffeine soap from thinkgeek.com or the candies? maybe you should
[addsig]
Posted by Govtcheez on 23:45:00 08-30-2002
I've had the penguin mints (although I've never had the chocolate ones)... The cinnamon ones are good

That soap is just.. weird... I've never tried it, but it'd be neat to see if it worked.

How's Bawls?
Posted by seunosewa on 21:03:00 08-31-2002
Get over your caffeine addiction and you'll be healthier ... and you'll still get the ame amount of work done. At first you'll have withdrawal symptoms, ... it happens with every kind of drug addiction.

No offence intended ...
Posted by KaGez on 23:30:00 08-31-2002
who is addicted? :/
eating caffeine candies != addicted :/

Kids hope you learnt your lesson, after 6 days it dont matter how clean your underwear was...

hm, no.
Posted by seunosewa on 23:01:00 09-01-2002
No? What do you mean no?

Withdrawal symptom from a stimulant: you feel drowsy/groggy if you don't use it. You feel you can't keep awake sufficiently if you don't use it when you're working. Now that's a withdrawal symptom!

Just because it only lasts two days to two weeks doesn't mean its not a withdrawal symptom?

Check out this page:

Posted by fsvara on 06:26:00 09-02-2002
seuno, etc. : what i meant was that no, you don't get withdrawal symptoms with every kind of drug addicition. you differentiate between physical and psychological addiction. there is no hard boarder of course.. you are not "addicted" or "not addicted". you're always something in between... "a little bit addicted", "rather not addicted" etc

Posted by KaGez on 15:38:00 09-02-2002
ok, what is the difference between being a little bit addicted and rather not addicted?
[addsig]
Posted by sacah on 19:50:00 09-02-2002
Truthfully, life is black or white, you are either addicted of not addicted. But we as humans feel the need to make things less harsh, so grey shades were invented.
(-:

Im addicted to the computer, hoplessly. And breathin, I cant seem to shake my addiction with breathing, mabye i will ring Breathing Anonomus.
(-;
Posted by KaGez on 21:59:00 09-02-2002
I think I could agree with those grey shades story... I mean, isn't that ture?
I mean, a little bit addiced is also addicted.

COKE!!!!!I drink about 5 cokes a day and I drink nothing else, but coke. I have shirts of coke, made a small game about Coke Vs. Pepsi (rigged in Coke's favor), and even have bottles of coke from around the word. Oh yeah and have coke pillow cases.

Funny part is... I am not joking as pathetic as it may seem.

Btw. PEPSI SU^s [addsig]

One of my favorite drinks, is a combonation of milk, vanilla (the kind that you buy in those little glass bottles), and splenda (any artifical sweetner should work). You put the milk into a tall glass, and pour in the vanilla, about one-capfull. Then sprinkle 2-3 packets of splenda in, and stir. It's one of my favorite drinks for all-nighters, goes great with cookies!

lately I'm kinda into "Dr. Pepper". I don;t think I need to explain what it is, do I? I think it's a quite international beverage
