How many people here use Windows? What version? How long have you been using Windows?

I used DOS for about 6 years, then Win 3.1 for about 1/2 year, Win95 for about 1/2 year too, the Win98 for 1 year, then I was PC-less for some time, and used Win98 SE for about 1 year. Then I discovered Linux. In the beginning I had a DualBoot, tho I mostly used Linux.
Currently I have Win2k installed (on a 5GB partition), but it's inaccessible, since I accidently overwrote the Win2k BootLoader with GRUB, and never really tried to fix it since I use it _vary_ rarely.
So, now I'm sitting in here with Win2k and Linux (total of 40GB HDD space for linux, still 20GB spare), Gentoo Linux 1.4 to be presice.

I hope it was OK to post something more like a "history"

Works for me , but I was hoping for those who use Windows _over_ Linux or any other OS.

That would me, I use Win98SE, hope to be WinXP soon. When I have a faster computer I might go over to Linux for doing some things, like graphics and web development. I have RedHat 7.2 in Linux department. [addsig]

I've been using Windows for quite a while. The first few years, like probably many other people here, I believed Microsoft made the best software in the world. I didn't know any other alternatives and used Windows 3.0, 3.1 and 95. This was 10 years ago.

Then I discovered TPU and Linux. This was the time of my rebellion against Windows and Microsoft (ie: Linux rules, Windows sux time). I installed RedHat Linux 4.1 on a 200mb partition on the family computer. I never really could get rid of Windows at the time since my father was also heavily using the computer for his work. If I had my own computer at the time, I would never have used Windows again.

After that came University and the first computer I could consider my own. Sadly, living on the campus, along with a bunch of geeks and a high-speed LAN = Orgy of multiplayer game! I was the only who was geeky enough to know a bit of Linux but never managed to convert the others to Linux. I was myself not in a great hurry to do so because I didn't know how to use Linux for day to day school work. That, and few other technical reasons made me use Windows 98SE, then Windows 2000, then Windows ME and then Windows 2000 again in the last 3 years of my life. I did install RedHat 6.1 for a while but got rid of it when I realised I was not using it at all.

I also done real-life work in those 3 years and realised that Windows was everywhere and jobs working in UNIX (and all the related flavours of it) were all that common where I lived.

Recently, I managed to find a nice second hand Athlon K6-2 for few bucks and installed Debian 3.0 on it. This is my Linux box. I now happily work on both platform and try to get the best of the 2 worlds.

This was few months ago. I use Windows .NET Server RC1 and Debian Sid.

I've been using Windows XP for (tries to force his brain to remember the torture that was Win98) about a year or so I think, and before that I was using Windows 98 Second Edition.

Oh and I've used Linux on many occasions as my university forced me to in the first year - hated the pile of **** and hope to never have to use it again.

Windows ME was(and is) so stupid. What the heck was the point of releasing a very unstable OS if 98SE was fine and XP was only a year away? [addsig]
