Anyone know anything about it? All I know is that it stands for Virtual Private Network. Where you can have a network over the internet. I saw it when I was installing PWS the other day. It would be cool for us to be able to share files and stuff, how our own YPN network with files and such.

It would be cool with something like a gigant FTP server where people can upload mp3s, videos, tutorials, docs, programming tools etc

isn't a VPN when you have a lot of different computers that each do a task of their own (like email, http, news) that are behind a router so that it looks like the router is doing all that?
a big network.. isn't that just a WAN?
a big ftp server: there are easier ways: napster.

I don't know much about VPN, but I think it is just like networking to windows machines, except you do it over the internet, share files and stuff.

well, we could make a file sharing shit for YPN members.. but do we really want that?
Posted by jgrant on 03:32:00 07-24-2001
I am just saying it would be nice sometimes since the YPN doesn't host files. Instead of people uploading there stuff it could be available. Hell oneday someone could write a filesharing, chat, and messageboard program for linux and windows, that would be nice .

Well, the server idea is good, I'm not sure about the file sharing thing... But it might become reality. We don't need a program for messageboards... I am making an own messageboard at the moment, to replace phpBB with. Whenever you catch me online, it's located at http://silverboy.no-ip.com/Board/ .
see ya

Some sort of file sharing between YPN members would be great. I got tons of dics, tutorials, programming tools, videos, mp3s etc. Whenever somebody wants something, I could just tell them to download it from the YPN-Net

I think that we should try what jrgrant is trying to do .... it would be much more efficient and faster I think . AND , you don7t have to write/DL any shitty software for it . I myself never tried it , but I also wanted to try it with a friend of mine some time ago ... anyways , I think that it is a good idea , and we should at least try it;)

Hehe, KaGez, what are you saying now? Jrgrant said we should make a program, and while you support what he says, you say we shouldn't write/DL any shitty program. How's that?
well, we might see what we come up with .

I don't know, the idea seems sorta unoriginal to me. Think: Gnutella

I was saying we should use the VPN software that comes with Windows98 and other versions too I think... And have a network for sharing files and such. So not everyone has to upload them.
I was just saying that oneday it would be nice to make a program like napster, but for source code, compilers, and stuff with integrated chat (like this website will be .
