The bubbling cauldron >> Take a Personality Test!
Posted by seunosewa on 20:02:00 06-17-2002
I came accross a fascinating personality test at this web site:
http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

I'll like to encourage fellow YPN members to take it and report their results. I'm I(78%)N(56%)T(22%)P(11%)

I'll like to read about yours (particularly our ro_bert). I want to see if we're all alike in some way...

(Note: I grabbed this from the Some AI Koans section of the Jargon File)

A disciple of another sect once came to Drescher as he was eating his morning meal.

"I would like to give you this personality test", said the outsider, "because I want you to be happy."

Drescher took the paper that was offered him and put it into the toaster, saying: "I wish the toaster to be happy, too."

Everyone seems to be pretty bad at judging, aside from ol' KaGez.

mh, why are some people here talking about INTP and some about INTJ?
Posted by MoX on 02:23:00 06-20-2002
Because the test shows you only four character traits and their intensity, I guess. [addsig]
Posted by fsvara on 22:51:00 06-20-2002
moxx: uh? that's not a reason... some here talk of intp and some of intj...
is that two diffrent tests... or what?
Posted by seunosewa on 23:29:00 06-20-2002
I notice that some people actually made posts on this page without actually taking the test. What's up?

NB: I was not talking about Moxx...
Posted by dxprog on 03:14:00 06-21-2002
How would you know if someone took the test? [addsig]
Posted by MoX on 06:13:00 06-21-2002
fsvara: It is a reason!

The test shows only the four strongest character traits or it tries to characterize you with four traits. Which traits are in the result depends on the outcome of your test. [addsig]
Posted by seunosewa on 18:43:00 06-21-2002
Please tell us your results if you took the test. Its good to know some of these things, I suppose.
Posted by sacah on 21:55:00 06-21-2002
Its a good thing, though use of this data could violate privacy laws of certain countries, and people.
d=:
Posted by fsvara on 22:27:00 06-21-2002
privacy laws of certain countries? it's a known fact that most of these kinds of tests, like iq tests, show more of a general tendency than any "hard" data. the iq tests got popular during the time of national socialism in germany, because it was thought to be a way to measure how "good" people are and basically measure the value of an individual... that is of course bullshit. and that's also why i take those tests always more for "fun" than to proove anything or to find out anything new... i think this kind of test results need _always_ to be taken with some scepticism.
Posted by MoX on 03:36:00 06-22-2002
I took the test twice with some days time between and I came off with two too different results...Can't remember the exact numbers but it had been an INT value both times while the fourth character trait alternated...

Don't know, but I would not value these tests too much. I think I agree with fsvare totally [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 08:52:00 06-22-2002
There only supposed to be fun. The only polls that should be serious is when voting. [addsig]
Posted by sacah on 13:48:00 06-23-2002
fsvara was it my different smily
a d=: instead of a d-: that threw you off and made you think i was serious???
I was also refering to the post above, as a joke, he said its a good thing to know, i said yes its a good thing to know, though use of it etc...
(-:
But as Im sure everyone knows, theses tests are made up by shrinks, these are people who have studied the human mind, done countless hours of study and work to get where they are, just so they can listen to other peoples problems.

They dont sound to sain or stable to me, and yet they think they can create a formular to catogrise people with extremly limited information.

d-:
Thats better.
Posted by dxprog on 07:11:00 06-24-2002
sacah: Why do you make your smileys backwards? [addsig]
Posted by sacah on 19:33:00 06-24-2002
What...
My smilies are backward???
No, everyone elses smilies are backward!!!

The originaly reason was when EmotIcons became popular, they would replace a smily :) with a picture. Howpointless, you lost the pure uber1337ness of a text smily, so to fool their smily scan system, I turned my smilies around backward.

(-:
Posted by fsvara on 23:49:00 06-24-2002
lol, that sounds really leet. guess i'm gonna do that, too (:
Posted by MoX on 01:15:00 06-25-2002
Don't know if I remember that right, but wasn't it for lefthandedness? [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 02:44:00 06-25-2002
Here all you have to do to bypass the image is click a checkbox. :-) [addsig]
Posted by MoX on 03:08:00 06-25-2002
Sure, but these smileys add individuality to your style (; [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 10:04:00 06-25-2002
What have I started? Now EVERYONE is going to use backwards smileys. [addsig]
Posted by sacah on 17:27:00 06-25-2002
You can uncheck the checkbox for most online boards, but in IMs like MSN,ICQ,IRC,Y! and Aim, they all scan for these and replace them. Including Trillian.
(-:

There are new IRC clients that replace the text smilies with images, well, they have been round for quite a while now, and are getting more populare as time goes on.

Oh, also while I am defaultly Right Handed, I can write with both hands. So its not to do with my being lefthanded, or being from Australia (Down under)

Ambidextrous eh? I can't imagine how anyone does anything with their left hand. Especially since most everything is made for right-handers. Like mice, or baseball mitts, and chewing gum. [addsig]
Posted by fsvara on 00:06:00 06-26-2002
dxprog: are you serious? I don't think being left handed really is a probelm at all.. Most things that have a "direction" are avialable in left-handed versions too... Being left-handed is no disability Or had being left-handed something to do with satan? (scnr )
Posted by MoX on 18:17:00 06-27-2002
Yes, it has. [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 02:57:00 06-28-2002
I'm just saying, everything is made for right-handers by default. If you want something left handed you generally have to pay more. [addsig]
