I know I haven*t been around lately, but that has a reason:
Peter and I have put really much work into sasquatch2 and we made the big break-through yesterday People can stay logged in and this login has an effect on all pages which means, you only have to login once in a couple of days Also we've worked this out to be very secure. Passwords are all md5 ecnrypted and not only that, the server stores a sectret hash-key which hashes the username and itsself into a cookie. This gives us maximum security
Peter and I are also documentating sasquatch2 so that it will be easy for anyone who's willing to add functions to actually do so. Right now, we're running the current development version of sasq2 of Peters apache
We've actually thought about making sasquatch an open-source-project and maybe having a test-server out there that people can mess around with. sachac and pixel: are you still willing to do this?
Btw, how's the irc- java-applet?
later.

I think it would be a good idea to let everyone try to hack a copy of sasq2 on a test server to find secutiry holes.
Of course you should release the source, not doing that would look a little strange in my eyes

About storing files... Is anyone here with a reasonably fast and stable connection willing to give a few MBs to the YPN?
Would it be very hard integrating sasq2 with let's say an FTP server?

Sasquatch2 is a system that intregates SQL used with the BB to other aspects of the site?
In which case, would it be possible to modify Sasquatch2 to work with Ikonboard which can be adapted to use MySQL?
Posted by fabs on 21:08:00 08-16-2001
Well, sasquatch and phpBB fit pretty good together. Of course, we COULD do that but I've never seen this ikonboard before. Is it good? Where can we see it in action?

I thought everybody knew of ikonboard
Their site is www.ikonboard.com and the author (Matt) is working on version 3 - u can c it in action, rather suprisingly, on their forum page.
I asked the question purely out of interest but I r8 Ikonboard highly as a forum

No, we're not going to use that, because I am currently writing an own board . Thanks for the tip though.

Writing your own board?!! That's some undergoing!
But isn't that a bit like re-inventing the wheel, if u don't mind me asking?
Also, I was only asking if it was possible to adapt this sasquatch2 to another bb.
Will it be going open source then?
Posted by Peter on 20:49:00 08-17-2001
Well, it is exactly that, re-inventing the wheel. But don't we all love that?
Yes you can make it work with any board I guess - it will be open source and we'll have a test server for those who want to contribute.

That's right Péter, do everything yourself!
Posted by Peter on 20:45:00 08-23-2001
Well, as much as possible, yes .

If you had your own server, you could have rewritten sasq in assembler

hey , re-inventing the wheel is cool ! I'm also thinkin about makin a little app , ofcourse re-invernting the wheel =D

Assembler? That's p*ssy's language!
What u need, is BINARY.
There's nuthin' better than programming in machine code. Binary, binary, binary. Its fantastic. Come on, get those permutations movin!.
