Well, I got my Linux machine connected to the internet. So, now I want to try out Telenet [Not Telnet], but have some question first.
1. Is it even still around?
2. Is it *illegal* to use?
3. Is it free?[From what Iv read I get the impression it is, but paid accounts are also avaliable?]
4. Does it get charged as a long distance call?
Okay, now about spoofing.
I'm rather paranoid, so I want my IP spoofed, but what programs are good [For XP and/or Linux]?
In case your wondering about these somewhat 'hacker/cracker-ish' questions, it's because I want to start playing WarGames, such as root wars.
Very much thanX!

I think I'm not the only one thinking this, but:
What is telenet? :/

Um, well, a few other people I'v talked to act like they have no idea what it is either. I'm thinking maybe it no longer exists, and it may have never existed in Nihon, so that might explain if you haven't heard of it.
But, basicaly, it was a large network, conecting to over 80 other large [global] networks. Apperently, you would dial up the local number to gain access to Telenet for free, however paid accounts could be purchased. I think it was similer to the Arpanet [?Maybe?]???
But, it's different than Telnet. I'll read up some more on it.

Um, isn't Usenet more a disscussion type network??
I read some more, Telenet is now SprintNet [As of 93], so I think it's still around in soem way or another -- I just can't see all global networks transferring from Telenet/SprintNet to the Internet in 10 Years.

if it isn't usenet, I can't help you there, sorry
But, I've already heard SprintNet somewhere... if I could just remember where it was ...

If you dial in to this Telenet thing, you don't need to worry about IP addresses, since IP is for the Internet! But they might be able to trace you by your phone number

Very true good point, but I don't think it was any thing illegal to dial in Telenet, just if you messed aroudn with machines connected to it.
