General YPN >> Programming issue of the week

Why can't we have a "programming issue of the week", or something? Of course we would have then in a language everybody knows, like Basic or C?

Example 1: I can write a (simple) encryption progran, encrypt a short message, and then post it (and the source code to the program). Now everybody should try to read the message.

Example 2: The one who write the best compression algorithm wins.

In the first case, the answers could be posted on this message board. But in case 2, everybody have to mail their code to someone, let's say fabs.

We are not discriminating anyone, the code in the examples above could be written in Basic, C, Assembler or even JavaScript...

What do you think about this? Please tell me .

sounds like a nice idea
We had some like these earlier, for example a debuggin-contest
The thing is, we'd always need new ideas. What I suggest is that we don't have this weekly but whenever there is something we wanna play with. That way, we wont have to desperatly think of stuff to solve.
Ideas can gbe posted here

Download this file, and post the message in the L1.DAT file here... The message is encrypted with the short C program included.
