General YPN >> Possible project.
Posted by johny-5 on 16:32:00 07-25-2001
I am posting this to anyone who can code in C and knows linux. I want to write a private ircd code for the YPN. I cant do it myself and I have experience in this area. If you are interested please e-mail me: johnybot5@hotmail.com

*PS*: I am a Network Administrator for a very small and young company. XZNetworks. If we can finish this project, I will give Peter a private shell account on one of my servers and I will host the ircd from my server. Usually I charge a fee, but I can do it for free since it is my company

hhmmm .. sounds good , but I have no experience in that field . Maybe it will be good to do such a project , because many ppls in here haven't done such things before . I think it's a good idea , so I'm on it , but not before I come back from germany

Writng an IRC client/daemon is a breeze. I have personally writeen one of each myself. But i will not be able to help you code this project because I am swamped with work. If you need advice though I will help out as best I can.

Johny-5:
Would you mind explaining what the hell you're doing? First you tell me to delete your stuff and when I'm finally done with that, you sign up again!! What is this? 2nd: You seem to be always saying 'Peter' when you really mean the ypn crew. Just for your information, eventhough you said "Peter, delete my stuff", in the end it's me who killed that stuff. And now you're saying "I can also give PETER a shell account".
Ok, I'm annoyed, just for your info.

Hehe... Here's what I logged:
[16:31] *** johny-5 has joined #ypr
[16:32] <johny-5> <------ Wont be long
[16:32] <johny-5> <------ Came to apologize for all that happened yesterday.
[16:33] <johny-5> <------ Says you have a great crew and are working for a good cause. Good luck on your 'quest'
[16:33] *** johny-5 has left #ypr

I think he changed his mind and wanted to be in it after all. And yeah, Johny-5, I'm not the crew, Fabs Fsvara and me, it is .

PLEASE IF YOU CAN CODE IN C, SIGN UP FOR THIS PROJECT! EVEN IF YOU JUST WANT TO TEST, SIGN UP ANYWAYS! Thank you, johny-5

Ok, now we FINALLY have enough to start the project

Here is our YPN IRCD Team.

jrgrant - tester, Peter - tester, johny-5 - coder, robost86 - coder, sachac - coder, gumleef - coder, KaGez - coder (when he comes back)

Thanks to everyone that signed up! We should organize a meeting and start to discuss features and such ASAP!

Then we only have to code the thing
Posted by johny-5 on 16:10:00 08-04-2001
Ok, too all IRCD team members, this is what has to be done:

We need to first off write the networking part of the ircd, we also need to get together and think of features we want in it. We need to start coding the channels, and the queries and DCC's. We also need to make it stand alone, 'does not involve inetd.d'

We need to decide whos coding what. We also need to get on irc so we can discuss this live. irc.chatjunkies.org #YPR or #YPNIRCD

Get there a.s.a.p.

I don't really know too much about coding large applications, but since this (i think) is going to be ported to Windows, why not write a head file for the sockets, so you can use the same functions with windows and linux, like send() or whatever, hell I don't know what I am talking about.
Posted by johny-5 on 18:16:00 08-04-2001
LOL we were talking about that on the irc channel. I need all team members to go to the channel ASAP! Thats where we will have regular meetings.
Posted by jgrant on 18:20:00 08-04-2001
I think this project should be more organized. These are just my suggestions. Have one person design the overall program (johny-5), have one person write the cross platform sockets header file (robert), have people test (peter and I), and have the other coders to whatever else is needed.
Posted by robost86 on 22:43:00 08-04-2001
Yes, this needs to be A LOT more organized. Make a detailed plan to follow, johny-5.
Posted by sachac on 16:09:00 08-05-2001
Yeah, I'm for that too. System design is _way_ cleaner when one or two people do it.
Posted by johny-5 on 15:06:00 08-06-2001
I might be away for a while, a long while, I need someone else to head the project. Any takers?
Posted by johny-5 on 15:49:00 08-07-2001
Well it seems as if I will not be going away after all. Earliest flight back home is September 10, I start school September 5. I will continue to head the project. And I urge my team members to get to IRC so we can discuss things in real time.
Posted by gumleef on 08:34:00 08-08-2001
ive been in #ypnircd virtually all day...

what's going on? where is every1?
