General YPN >> POP3 email protocol and potential security risks associated
Posted by ^pixel on 16:20:00 07-04-2001
Hello peeps I am thinking about putting on a tutorial about POP3 protocol and what security risks are associated with it.I think this topic affects alot of us since POP3 is the most popular email protocol amoung ISP's. I will cover the protocol itself as well as potential exploits associated with it. Anyways, I would appretiate a reply from those interested and possibly a time that is best for you. You can also mail response to me at my business account blindmimetek@home.com

Ciao

Sounds intresting. I read a small article on pop3 @ blacksun but that's about it. I'd love to read a tutorial about it

Kagez, I can cover a bit of SMTP if everyone would like. Not my speciality but I can take some time to go over it.

RCPT TO richard@stallman.org

Hi richard!
I think there is a problem in your software license, it says that users can have the sourcecode. I guess it's a typo. Please fix it.
.

i dunno if that is the exact snytac for rcpt to and mail from, but it should be right....

fsvara is very correct, I will give a brief example of how to send an email through SMTP and I will cover some of the main security risks of SMTP. (Where did you think email bombing came from) Anyways, I can do it this Saturday 12 noon EST. (Whatever that works out to in GMT)
Posted by KaGez on 17:26:00 07-05-2001
12 EST ?? That's -5 GTM .... so it will be .... 17GMT ?!?!? naahh ... I'll sleep then ...

Well if the time is a problem, make a suggestion when is good for everyone and I will try and accomodate.
Posted by fsvara on 19:18:00 07-05-2001
hm, i can't be there, 17gmt is too late for kagez and fabs. =(

i don't know, what about 15GMT? that should be ok for most of us, even if it's a bit of a compromise.
10:00 for est, 24:00 for japan.. uh, that's still late.

well, i think the best time would be like 12 or 13gmt.

and if you do it, please make logs for me, ok?
Posted by ^pixel on 05:50:00 07-06-2001
The eariest I could do it would be 15GMT because I need some wake up time before doign a lecture.
Posted by KaGez on 09:09:00 07-06-2001
hehe ... I'm fine with 15GMT ... I also won't be there from around 13GMT to 15GMT , cuz I gafta meet my CS clan mates .
So , I'd also suggest 15GMT

I don't know if I can be there, but log it please. I'm interested in that stuff... also in how to apply them in say, c++.

I'd appreciate a tutorial too if the lecture won't be well-visited... [addsig]

Hello ladies and gents. As was previously stated, I made a mistake in my GMT calculation and woke up a hour early (After excessive beverage compusmption the night before). I then went back to bed and missed my alarm by a few hours. I will in place be hosting a tutorial all the same info that would have been in the lecture. Expect to see it up in a couple of days.

Ciao
