General YPN >> Partyfish Mirrors
Posted by KaGez on 22:08:00 10-08-2002
I'm currently working on getting up a partyfish mirror. I hope to get it done within the next 1-3 days. I will release the URL then.
Anyways, I'm looking for persons who want to mirror it, too sacah tried to mirror it, but his stupid host denied the installation of PHP PEAR Cache, for inacceptable reasons, like that it is still in beta (yeah, sure, version 1.5 is beta, ofcourse ), that it isn't suited for such servers etc.
Anyways, if you have a server at home, or if you know some place you could put it up, please help us and mirror partyfish!

I would offer, but I don't have an server space supporting PHP. [addsig]

my mirror is going quite well up to now... I'll need to recompile mod_php to work with gd2, but the rest is just perfect for now

By mirror, do you mean "Independent installation of the software" or is the content (message boards and whatnot) going to be replicated?
Posted by sacah on 20:39:00 10-09-2002
Independant installation.
http://www.sacah.net/partyfish/

This partyfish has pear cache turned off.
(-;

PS. just read Kagez's message, I do love my host, and I imagine they would have to look at every part of a plugin to make sure it is not an insecure thing, as im not the only person who uses them for hosting. They dont want snowballin or something.

I understand it, but as I said, the reasons they've given were inacceptable, that's all I'm sure that that host doesn't lollipop. I was talking about the reasons they gave

dxprog:
yeah, a independent version of partyfish-beta1. Since there are no changes in partyfish-beta1, it's quite ok with a independent one

I'm proud to announce that the first real mirror of the partyfish (not only beta, also CVS) is up and running
It's localted on my server at home, and since it's my PC I work on, I can't guarantee 24/7 uptime, since I also need to get some work done
It'll be up most of the time, and if it isn't, try again afetr waiting for some mins
The URL of the mirror is:
http://kage-chan.homelinux.net

Enjoy!

I have my own server and I don't mind if YPN is on my hdd so I find it ok.
My server isn't 24/7 yet but if you help me setting up debian w/o X for internet and my router pc I will probably be a good mirror
My server will be:
1x p166 (probably @ 233 -->:P) - router&mainserver
1x p133 - server
3x 486dx2 66 - server
1x 486dx 40 - server
1x 486dx 33 - server
and maybe more, but I can't use all my computer because my parents need some power too (all comps will use -->3KW/h so that's pretty much )

I can even host it now but it won't be 24h/day online (I use win 2k so it will crash sometime ) [addsig]

I sure hope you use Apache and not IIS under Windows 2000???
Posted by HeavyJ on 07:18:00 10-31-2002
bah IIS
I will use debian linux for my 'normal' server [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 12:34:00 10-31-2002
None of those computers would be able to host more than four or five concurrent sessions. I don't feel so bad anymore. [addsig]

my mirror also isn't up 24/7, but it's up like 90%. I'll list the mirrors again:
http://kage-chan.homelinux.net/partyfish-cvs/ http://kage-chan.homelinux.net/partyfish-beta1/
And, if you abose my machine, I'll take it down!

Mine is no longer up.
Posted by KaGez on 02:11:00 11-01-2002
ok, thx for the note
[addsig]
Posted by sacah on 15:25:00 11-02-2002
sorry to take mine down, but it would not get updated at all, and was not fully functional as pear cache was not installed, and my quick fix broke a few other things.
(-;

So it was best just to kill it.
Sorry.

sacah in the CVS tarball which is currently on my server everything works without a cache too afaik. So, (only if you wanna put it up again) there shouldn't be a problem without PEAR anymore. Thx for the bugreport/fix

I know, I could port Partyfish to ASP and then I could put it up on my server. A guarenteed 24/7 mirror. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 19:38:00 11-06-2002
bah, ASP... then it isn't partyfish anymore... it'd be something like LSDfish
[addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 20:30:00 11-06-2002
Hey, you only hate ASP because
A: It's a VB derivitive
B: Not open source
C: It's an MS thing.

It's no slower than PHP, and on my system it's faster (go figure ). And it's still free, I don't care if it's like free beer. To me free is free.

well, all A, B & C apply, but
SO WHAT!?!?!?
[addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 23:55:00 11-08-2002
VB is my native language next to english, so lay off already. Though I have been a bit of C++ stuff lately. And I'm going to be breaking away from Windows this weekend(not permanently) for I am going to buy a book(used) with Mandrake in it this weekend. FINALLY, I can see what Linux is like. Okay, I've broken away from the subject. I'll be quiet. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 11:11:00 11-09-2002
well, I use windows too, I don't see what's so bad in using windows. That is, if you don't use it permanently. I would die because of stress if I'd use XP everyday. Pop here, pop there, "close me", "lick me to get a scandisking tutorial".... well, I think you know what I mean
But, I also use Win98/2k. 98 is for testing some programs, and if thei're good I'll use em in Win2k. So the 98 is there to be nuked. Linux is still my main OS tho

Posted by dxprog on 12:08:00 11-09-2002
I would like WinXP, for stability and the skinning. But Win98SE does pretty good for me at the moment. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 22:17:00 11-09-2002
I can shit on skinning if everything works well and look ok per default

few last days i have an idea of making some libraries for both asp and php, to make sites easy portable from asp to php, only by shanging
