General YPN >> Partyfish Beta1 out!
Posted by KaGez on 16:48:00 10-02-2002
Yes, it's true, we've finally released our first beta version of the YPN's next generation PHP engine, "Partyfish".
There are 2 ways to get it:
1) Go to the projects section and download it from there
2) Download it directly from:
http://www.youngprogrammers.net/files/partyfish-beta1.tar.bz2

Please take a look at the README in the tarball before doing anything, I'm sure it will save you a lot of work
Everything you need to know is in README, so follow the instructions and you shouldn't need further help.
If you're still experiencing problems, please join us in IRC and ask me (kage-chan) for help
Have a pleasant day, and happy hacking!

Not a problem. I began hacking partyfish last night and I think I understand how the theme portion works. I do need to install MySQL on my computer though because I keep getting errors. Wish me luck. [addsig]

i had the chance to see i running on kagez' server (:D) and I must say, it looks great.

The messageboard needs some polishing but the rest looks pretty cool. the new design it uses is nice too, tho there are some details that would imo better look different, but that's details, and it's ot finished

well, kudos to the developers!

fsvara:
hey, why don't you get a copy of it out of CVS? you have access to it, so I don't see anything which could stop you from doing so
it'd be great if you could do so and spot some bugs or things which could still be improved.

The 2nd one is for everyone, so if you're bored, get it and look at it and find bugs

Is there an easier way to set up the partydb database without manually typing it all in at the prompt? [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 10:55:00 10-07-2002

we still have to discuss what sections we will include into the new mb.
Anyways, since the currently active OPs are like only 4 or 5 (something like that), and we are living in quite different time zones we are having difficulties to arrange a meeting. I'm trying to get this stuff straight for weeks now tho.... could still take some time

sacah: I was a little annoyed that such general computing news were added - not that he added news. Don't tell me you didn't understand what I said. I said very clearly that "we're not slashdot", not that we shouldn't post relevant YPN news. Doh.

However, we sorted out the news issue and agreed on a solution.

So stop ridiculing me..

KaGez: There seems to be a problem with the CreateImage function in the activation module. It gave me that on both you and sacah's mirrors, so my computer isn't the only one. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 22:04:00 10-17-2002
yeah, you need gd2.... every good php host has it installed
on debian, simply do:
apt-get install php4-gd2

in windows you simply replace the thing (php_gd) with php_gd2 and uncomment it. You shoudn't need to install further stuff on win.
[addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 02:23:00 10-18-2002
Then your php host must not be very good. j/k And when you change your title again, could you change mine to GOd_Of_tHe_YPN. [addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 08:56:00 10-18-2002
Have another error to report. One of the captions on the poll results doesn't display. (The "It's ok" one) [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 21:58:00 10-18-2002
yeah, I discovered that too some days ago, but I still didn't have time to fix it. I'll probably be able to fix it today. Thx for the report tho
btw, does everything work now over there?
if not, if you wanna spot some bugs, you coul use the version running on my server, which has a completely functional (in the meaning of supporting everything needed) PHP installed. The URL is:
http://kage-chan.homelinux.net

it's a official mirror, but if you try to do stupid things, I'll take it down so, don't try stupid things
[addsig]
Posted by dxprog on 00:28:00 10-19-2002
Now it says imagepng() is an undefined function, and that was on your server too. I'm going to download that PHP pack and install it on my computer tonight. [addsig]
Posted by KaGez on 14:03:00 10-20-2002
oh damnit... sorry, forgot to compile my mod_php with libpng support
I'll fix it later this day.
