Ok, its time for my pc to go through its first format C.

Now since i never did this before, how do i do this? i got win 98 SE. ALso, is there a way to remove all partitions? like to make it one HDD again? not diff partitions? then i wanna format c and reinstall win. Will this also delete the BIOS? or will that remain installed?

plz help me, thanks

Haha, BIOS can't be deleted that easy.. Even is you have writable BIOS chip, you can't use FORMAT with it

To remove all partitions, you just use partition program, like fips or fdisk. Then create one big FAT partition, format it with FORMAT (from a boot floppy or CD), and install win on it

ok, thanks. Is there a way to "undo" the partitions with windows? if not, are those programs u mentioned free, and if yes, where can i download them? well thanks!

fdisk comes with every windoze installation. A good program, whcih, however isn't free is "Partition Magic", that's way easier to sue than fdisk and has a LOT more features, like resizing paritions, merging partitions, changeing partition format ,etc....

but after i reformated and installed windows, i still got the LILO at the beginning of boot, even if i deleted linux! and around 10GB HDD are missing, even if i don't have a second partition! well, most important is how i delete LILO. HOW?

You boot an MS-DOS prompt (a native one, not in a Windows window) and type

<C:\>fdisk /mbr

This will clear the MBR and Windows will boot normally.

But just because you cleared the linux partition, it's nor sure you actually erased them. Launch fdisk and check the partition table (I reckon it's choice 4 in the menu). Don't forget to ask it for the logical units too. If you see a partition that you wanted to kill, just delete it with fdisk and make a new one for either linux or windows.

hm, I don't want to attack anybody (seriously), but is partitioning that hard? ok, I have done it often, but it can be done in 5 mins :/
ok, maybe for Win users it is, since many (NOT ALL!!) don't know much about computers itself, because they are just not working as close to the system itself as the hard-core linux ppls. If I'm wrong, tell me so ...

oh, not necessarily. There are many windows-people who know much about hardware.
