General YPN >> Need a programmer...
Posted by hawkfeather on 10:11:00 02-10-2003
I'm looking for a part-time/student programmer who is very proficient in cocoa, object C, OpenGL, and OS X. I'm a software engineer and graphic designer and I need a partner for a new project I am developing. The resulting profits will be split 50/50 and I will provide a new iBook to the candidate I choose. And I don't care how young you are or what you are!! Know of anyone who might be interested or where I might post this as a classified ad that would obtain good results?

Well, I think I could only help with OpenGL tho I don't even have a idea what this "cocoa" is...

Cocoa is one of the APIs for programming GUI apps for OS X. It uses the Objective-C language, based on the NeXTStep/OpenStep APIs, and the API pretty much the same as GNUStep (which Windowmaker is based on), I believe. Who cares about the profits, I would do it just for the iBook Alas, I don't know much Cocoa or OpenGL, and I removed OS X from my system long ago. I'm curious, though, what is this project gonna be?

I would just take the money and the money that would be used for the iBook and buy 4 or 5 normal laptops [addsig]

"I would just take the money and the money that would be used for the iBook and buy 4 or 5 normal laptops"

____

iBook starts at $999. I doubt you could buy 4 or 5 normal laptops for that price.

By the way, will the iBook be the just updated ones (900MHz) or the 800MHz one?

Well I was basing that post on the fact that a G4 is $5000+ and, yes, that would buy you a few laptops. [addsig]

LOL, why that many PC laptops?!
Quality _not_ quantity!!! (^_^)
/* that was sorta a factual joke */ [addsig]

I rather have fifty unstable Windows 95 PCs with heat problems than just one Mac. End of story. [addsig]

Oh...LOL...okee
Actualy, if you search ebay you could probly find alotta old PC [laptops] like that for less than a Mac. (^_^) [addsig]

$5000? Where do you live? Is that like HKD or something?

I have an iBook. It is pretty good value, considering it runs great.

I do agree that some Apples are overpriced, and they don't offer that great of performance like the 12" Powerbook for $1800.

It says "USA" in under his name.
He could be referring to the dual G4. I haven't looked at the prices lately...I'm waiting for the iBooks to get a G4 [and when i find some cash] to get one. i also want to see how Apple plays out with this CPU deal. [addsig]

Last I looked the were still some astroniomcal price (without a monitor on top of it). Of course that was early last year, but I imagine they're still a bit compared to a normal PC. [addsig]

Well, a few months ago... I was playing around on the Apple configurator to see hwo much a maxed out dual G4 sever would be... and i thik with no holds, it would be near as much as a Sun Blade [$35G].
maxed out PowerBook is probly around $3-5G; iBook $2-3G; and i dunno realyl about the desktops.
But, 'value' Apples are $999 [eMac, and iBook], and i think iMac starts at $1.2G. [addsig]

And, IMO, those new iMacs are UGLY!!! [addsig]

http://www.apple.com/store

All the latest prices, plus the newly updated iBooks.

"And, IMO, those new iMacs are UGLY!!!"

Really? I think they look pretty nice. Fairly priced too, I mean...for a Mac.

Sorry, I'm attached to my gray\black boxes. Fancy design doesn't concern me (unless one is talking what one is actually viewing on the screen). If you like Mac fine, I don't. Guess I carried on needlessly didn't I? Um... I'll go crawl in a box and leave you all alone now [addsig]

Yeah, PCs' have the cool cases [haveya seen AlienWare's new case?! it looks liek it was made to match a 60s' car, but painted for 90s'..._very_ cool!!! (^_^)]
You can actualy have a PC and a Mac in the same case-- I'v seen it done. The PC fits in a 5.5 [not sure right size, but the larger slot] drive bay...and the mac uses goes where a normal mobo and such would go.

As far as idle chat...no one else seems to be using the BBS. (^_^) [addsig]

We must keep things busy I guess. [addsig]

Yeah, a good example of a PC molded into a Mac case would be at http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MzUx

He built a powerful AMD system into a custom-painted Powermac Chasis.

I've seen the new Alienware towers, not bad for $2587US. Their new laptops are nice too, kind of heavy though.

Well, Gateway recently made their marketing attacks directly on Apple. They did a "one-piece-computer" thing. Not sure how it went though. I still like my PC sprawled everywhere [addsig]

Yeah, I saw that commercial. They also had a site up aiming it against the iMac. I showed my cousin who is a total mac addict and he didn't take it to well.

The commercial showed the computer Gateway Profile 4 doing flips over the iMac while the narrator said it was a cheaper, fast and better looking computer.

Something like that.
