Can someone explain to me the difference between KDE and GNome, what they are, etc?
If not, can someone provide a link that does?

KDE and GNOME are desktops for Linux [and UNIX, BSD, ect]. So, basicaly, in simple terms, they're the software that runs/adds features to your windows.
KDE is the older of the two, and I think is more stable...it's latest version is like 3.?[not sure the exact version].
GNOME is made by the GNU Project, and, I think it looks nicer than KDE. But it uses Nautilus [kinda like Windows Explorer], which seems slow on my system.
SO...try them both out and see which you like better!

If you want a more Windows like feel go with KDE, (that's what I'm using). If you want to brak away from tradition go with Gnome.

If you try KDE make sure you get 3.1, I haven't used it yet...but it looks _alot_ nicer than KDE 3.0
