I am starting a little game series based on the Lord of the Rings books. Seeing I am lousy at graphics I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help. The main game is going to be written in VB using the DirectX API (which I will be coding myself ). If anyone would like to help please let me know.

dxprog: be careful. if more than 5 persons know about that game, you'll be sued, put into prison, and executed as soon as you turn 18.
Posted by dxprog on 02:36:00 04-17-2002
fsvara: Isn't executed going a bit far? Also it's not like I'm going to SELL the game. Maybe not even distribute it. Just something to do.
moondude: Sprites mostly. I'm can do some BGs on my own. It's just when it comes to sprite I'm pathetic.

DirectX for sprites???? Direct DraW?
You just cant sell this, other was they cant sue you, look how many ppl made and distrubute Lord of the Rings screensavers, using pictures direct from the movie!
Posted by MoX on 20:21:00 04-18-2002
Try to sell it...try to find somebody who will spend his money on it...and finish the game first

though laws on movies is very stumblin now, I imagine they trin to tighten it, but I doubt we will see it anytime soon, I would say dlin a movie, as long as its not a CAM is legal, though nothings like seein it on cinma screen, with massive surround sound speakers

It has to have been recorded by someone. It's not supposed to come out on video until August. We're going to reserve a copy of the DVD. And what does d/les mean?

They are so cheap now compared to when they first came out too, and they are so much better.

My parents bought a DVD player a few weeks ago and it was only $90. All the extras and the quality makes it a zillion times better than VHS.

VHS...tape...

Posted by dxprog on 08:49:00 04-22-2002
My dad says that someone is making a new type of tape that is supposed to be better than DVD. I doubt they can make a system quite like DVD. Interactive menus and all the extra stuff on a tape. HA.
Posted by sacah on 21:48:00 04-22-2002
no, no tape will be as good as Disc style, VHS means tape, for those wonderin, and NTSC is the american format of the old video tape.
Posted by MoX on 22:00:00 04-22-2002
A tape better than a disc, huh?
Maybe it fast-forwards with light-speed

Posted by sacah on 22:05:00 04-22-2002
imagine the ware you would get from fast/rewinding a tape at high speeds. Crystals might be the next big storage thing.

Anyway, hows this Lord of the Rings game goin???
Posted by dxprog on 05:25:00 05-05-2002
Well, I'm working on a Direct3D\DirectDraw engine. I asked Henning for a Frodo graphic but haven't heard from him yet. I have most of the levels mapped out (in my head) and I need to get them on the computer.

dxprog: Great idea for a game! I used to use VB also.
I had an idea for a Lord of the Rings RPG on the Web using Perl.
This seems like a good idea, and don't worry about those movie companies,
they get enough money already, just put a nice disclaimer on the game to show that this work is "not ment to infringe the rights of New Line Cinema Co."
You probably aren't worried anyway.
An idea: make an online multiplayer system.
Lord of the Rings rox!
Thanks...

Thanks. If you could explain how I would work the multi-player system...
Posted by MoX on 23:06:00 05-05-2002
Recently (some weeks or months ago ) there was an interestign article on this topic on slashdot. I _strongly_ recommend to read it before you go and start with an online RPG...
