I was wondering if any of you Linux savvy people could figure out a way that I could get this XWin system to run on an HDD WITHOUT a flop drive. Here's the URL. http://www.mungkie.btinternet.co.uk/projects/2diskXwin.htm

if there is also the whole loadline stuff on the CD you just need to have DOS. Else you could just give it a friend, zip the disk and send it to you by email
Anyways, if the loadlin stuff is on the disk (CD), you just need to boot in DOS, and then cd onto that CD and start linux through loadlin. I don't know how you do that on that CD, because almost every CD has a different structure
but I could help you out if you come into the chan

CD? Because of the way my AOL account is setup I can't get on the channel. I have tried before.

I would suggest searching for an x-window distribution that is not designed for booting from floppies???

I want something that won't take a zillion years to download. Not to mention I have to copy all my files via paralell cable to my computer which is not fast.

Some probable distributions:
(1) BasicLinux looks promising if all you want is to run Linux on your Windows system:
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ichi/baslinux.html --OR--
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/baslinux/
Just follow the instructions, I suppose.
(2) JAILBAIT (jailbait.sourceforge.net) looks nice, but they seem to have some problems (he download currently doesn't work)
(3) Monkey Linux: http://www.spsselib.hiedu.cz/monkey/docs/english.htm
Check out the Google Directory, specifically:
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Operating_Systems/Linux/Distributions/Tiny/DOS_Friendly/?tc=1
Final Recommendation? Sorry, I'm stumped.

If you wanna use Linux inside windows, all those distros aren't the best. imho.
Most of them are really out-to-date and have old software and strange internal structures.
The best is to get the demo of VMware and install linux on that. Then oyu can use any distro you like, without limitations, and you don't need to worry about if you scandisk up your partition table
http://www.vmware.com has it.

Yeah - that was of course 'silently' included in my idea - which was not meant too serious...
I just think, that we should stop posting such destructive bullsh*t whenever somebody mentions the word Linux or Windows...bashing each other will not convince anybody of the qualities our systems have. It's just time wasting and does not help us feeling as a community.
/me was not the last one who replied angrily to anti-Linux posts - but I think we should just stop provoking each other!

mox:
that's what I was talking about in that winXP post... but it seems like -KEN- for example didn't like that and left the YPN...
anyways, if there is one of you, go read my post in the windows section, in the winXP thread.

I dunno if he left, but it seems like he has... I haven't seen anything from him after that (or not much)....
maybe he just doesn't know that we moved to this server or something... dunno..
I wouldn't cry tho, same as you

He came to the chan and asked what was up with the site. We told him the new address. So I guess he was never really away.
