... because many ppls almost flamed me as I said that I will buy Windows XP . Let me explain it :
I love Linux , yes , but I also don't HATE windows . I don't wan to be radical and say "Windows sux" , even without even trying out the new one . I think I will give windows a last chance to get a better image inside me . Anyways , I also wanna see what the new Windows really has to offer .
Now you guys will say "Then rip it off a warez site" .... no ... I would love to do so , but if I get WinXP I need the japanese version ... and there I'm already almost forced to buy it ... anyways , it won't cost me more than 100$ , cuz I still can buy the academic pack
so , don't flame me ... until now only Peter and fabs really understood it .... hopefully all you other guys will too

Let me just say that I think Windows XP is dog crap. If you don't know my experience with it, I'd be glad to share it. I'm sticking with Windows 2000 for now. [addsig]

I have no real experince with either of them but I kinda support Win2000 over XP.

Yeah... But don't except too much. Microsoft products often are better in verion X than in version X+1

btw, you know I'm no Windows-hater. I'm no Windows lover, but no real UNIX lover either. People screaming Windows lollipops because everyone else does it are annoying.

What I like with Windows is:

1) My sound card won't work in Linux, but it works in Win.
2) In Windows, my swedish keyboard works perfectly. For some reason, it doesn't do that in X...
3) I'm used to Win, and I like too many Windows programs/games to just stop using them

If I had 2 good computers (my second best computer is just an old 80386sz 16MHz with no CD), I would have one Linux computer and one Windows computer.

btw, KaGez, why do you need the Japanese version?

I need the japanese version for e.g. school work . I need to write japanese stuff often , and buying office for that seems kinda stupid to me , cuz it will just get more expensive .
That's the main reasun , and , I must admit , I feel better with a japanese environment . But , that's only a secondary reason . btw, my Linux also runs on japanese

That's exactly what I REALLY hate !! Just look away and give a like run away from Windows ... why can't you just face it ?? Yes , I also don't like M$ , but I hate it more to just look away and don7t care about what a new "multimedia standard" is like . You know what I understand ?
Now don't get me wrong ... I LOVE linux , yes , more than windows in ANY way . But , that's no reason for me NOT to use Windows ...

i have no problems with using windoze sometimes, but i would never buy it...

i mean, if i wanted to see what xp can do, i'd look at someone else's comp who has it. or look at screenshots or read about it.
i dunno, for me there is just no reason to buy a m$ product just to see what it is like.

if i wanted to use winoze, i'd keep 98.

i understand kagez... i feel like u do... btw... i never heard about the windowz XP... mabybe somebody can help me with that... i'm thinking of upgrading from 98 to ME or 2000... i just f.ucking had it with the goddamn instabillity of 98... it crashes like at least once daily... and ppl told me that 2000 and ME are soooo stable...


the reason why i keep on liking and using windows is because i can't use linux.
1. there are no drivers that work in linux with my usb dsl AND with my dial up modem.
Linux without internet?? doesn't that kinda really f.ucking lollipop???
2. i have no clue on how to use the text based terminal for codes and so on.... i could learn it, yes, but don't i need like tutorials to do so? well internet doesn't work with my linux, so i would always have to restart and run linux so i can try out what i just learned in the tutorial...
3. i can't stop playing Counter-strike, Black & white, and those many other games i have, i want to keep Photoshop and 3D studio max, and i am dependent on the windows environment... i just feel better in it, cuz i know where everything is and where i find my stuff...
4. just like you guys probably, i sometimes just HATE windows and my pc... like in the times when it displayed Operation System not found and didn't start up, but i HAD 98... or when i saw the blue error screen more often than my desktop.... but.... for me... linux is the 1.st choice....
BUT
i would love to use linux and have fun using it, IF the internet would work... damn...

Hey, if you want stability, do NOT install Windows ME. I used it but it always scandisked up, now I use Win98 as it's a hundred times more stable.

it is? wew... well then... i want to try it... but imma surely keep my´98 disk... anybody heard about that 'new' worm red alert? the one that spreads so scandisking fast and is worse than a virus? its supposed to not hit win 95, 98 and ME users... poor 2000 users... but i heard from a friend that 2000 was the most stable win OS he ever had... it sux that it doesn't support enough games and software yet...

Hehe, the worm hits especially people using IIS... You know what we say about M$ products .

Well ME is OK but it hangs up a lot more than 98 does. It doesn't do much new stuff anyhow.

did you read the dumb article saying it would destroy the internet? that was on slashdot.. i find it sorta funny ==)

We had a lot of fun grepping our access.log and looking for NNNNN.. Seems to have blown over without any problems, even on the Windows side.

Now SirCam - we're *still* dealing with that, thanks to lots of people who don't follow the guidelines. We've put in rules on the mail server to junk those messages, but still.. <sigh>
