Just wondering how all you guys, esp the main people at this site, can know so much at such a young age, and I'm comparably a retard... What sorts of things did y'all do to get started?

it's all about breast-feed

Well... um... yeah... Hmmmm....
Sorry - don't have an adequate response to that
Posted by Fortuno on 15:45:00 02-06-2002
Not that I claim to know alot compared to the rest of the dudes here, but I think it has to do with an immense amount of boredome on our part.

I think Fortuno is wrong (hmm... has that happend before?), I say it's because of our interest in programming.
If you're not interested by something - you simply can't become an expert in that area.

fortuno: heh, bored... call it "unsuited for rl"
j/k
Govtcheez: Actually, most of all my computer knowlegde is pretty recent (

--> once you have linux it knowledge happens automatically
Jeez.... that's a little assumptive, don't you think?
Robost - I don't think it's got that much to do with interest - I've been intersted in programming for as long as I can remember... Maybe you guys were just more interested than me...
Posted by Fortuno on 16:06:00 02-06-2002
You know, bored! Maybe Govt had "friends" and a "life," you know? I'll bet that gets in the way of programming
I think Fortuno is wrong (hmm... has that happend before?)
Do what? This is like my ... 3rd post on here ... could you tell me what you mean by that?
Posted by robost86 on 16:15:00 02-06-2002
I meant you're usually right. Since you haven't posted here - i refer to IRC.

Hmmm... Yup and no... Never really got in the way of computer stuff (esp. since most of my friends are really into them, also)... I guess you guys just had more drive than me.

i've got a sad story here. i've got a lot (real lot) of friend, outhings ...everything... but one thing i dont have.

You know what's really unfair? I can reply to lbYbl's post one day *before* he posted it! I'm guessing the message board uses the poster's timezone...and I know YPN didn't write this, but it would seem that either all the posts should be in the reader's timezone or GST (I think/hope you call it that )
Posted by Fortuno on 01:29:00 02-07-2002
Oh! Never mind. I see, it converts everything to some standard by looking at my own post :-/ I guess I should look before I leap. I guess that looking at the other posts by people then lbYbl's...it made me think that they were being posted at the same time. Sorry

govt: i feel ya
i feel like an idiot on the YPN channel, and im always like "huh" or "???".
also, when people look at my code, its like they start yelling all this stuff at me like how i should do this and do that and that i shouldnt do this which is good for me, but i start feeling a bit stupid .
Posted by Peter on 08:16:00 02-07-2002
hehe, I'm certainly not good at programming. I have a big interest for it and I think I learn quite well once I do but I'm not very good...
Posted by Govtcheez on 12:54:00 02-07-2002
Yeah, but Flikm, aren't you like 12? That means you have an 8 year jump on me...
Posted by AcidBurn on 22:02:00 02-18-2002
Well, what got me started was when I was in 6th grade and my friend was doing basic HTML. Everybody gathered around him in complete shock that he could make the background red. So, I started learning stuff and left him in the dust because I came to love programming and web development.

I amung other things has a short attention span, so I love computers cause there are so many dif languages to learn, but I can never settle down for long enought to learn any langauge good.

But thats just me

sacah: i've had the same problem with learning c... but now i've found an interesting project to work on, and learn new stuff everyday, and a lot faster than by just reading my book and coding generic (mostly boring) exercies...
Posted by sacah on 23:06:00 02-20-2002
(-:
I have never read any books on programming, or done those excersises, I will need something done so will learn how to code that, like you do, but even when joinin a project that I love, I still cant keep interested, but its not a bad thing learning heaps of langs, you could then further ur knowledge easier when the time comes.
Posted by sacah on 02:59:00 02-22-2002
Like 2 hours after postin that I got 2 books out of the library on Delphi programming, I have been told I need to restrict my computer usage, and increase amount of time I excersie to improve my health, so lots more readin will probably be comin soon.
