The bubbling cauldron >> Is this a good magazine?

I'm might subscribe to the programming magazine called "Dr. Dobb's Journal" soon. I've heard it's like "The classic" or "THE" programming magazine. If anyone else subscribed to that, could you tell me how good it is and what it's like? Thanks! [addsig]

I reckon the net is far better than printed material, more upto date, and far cheaper.

Hmm...and I always thought Dr.Dobbs was a online magazine... [addsig]

DDJ was a print mag long before it was on the net, AFAIK... Yes, it's a good magazine - it'd probably be worth it to get the print version - it's more substantial and permanent, plus I know a lot of magazines put things inthe print version that aren't on the web, just to get you to buy the magazine.

Ah, okay. Did not know that. I thought it had started on the net. [addsig]

I agree. If you want to learn anything scout the net for stuff. Everything I know, including breathing and eating, I learned from the net. [addsig]

I've got about 16book in here, which also gave me quite a bunch of programming knowledge. I think printed stuff is better to learn, since you can read it anywhere, and not only in front of the PC. (if you print it, you'll have printed stuff again )

I was not meanin the online version of the magazine, I was sayin the programming stuff you would get from the mag is on the net, plus if im not at my computer its not much use to learn any programming, cant use it.

Plus i cant read printed material well.

Of course, I couldn't live without my big fat VBasic book. [addsig]

I subscribe to DDJ, and I must say, it's pretty good as magazines go. It's certainly not perfect, but it's okay. A similar magazine is BYTE.

Sneed!

there's a german magazine called "c't", that's a cool one. Much information, comes twice a month, and not stuff like hot you can align your damned icons on a windows desktop or lame stuff like "tune your windows extremely with these tools!" .... it's a great mag imho.
