Web programming >> Internet Pet Hates

Ok, what, be it the internet itself or when people talk about it really gets on your nerves... I'll give you an example: People who say you have to "Click on" a certain site (this is expecially true in adverts on tv) people who say you have to "Log On" to blabla site, people who say ww. instead of http://www. and people who look at a simple HTML page a frown apon it saying its a load of gibberish.

So, no flaming, and try not to kill each other

I can tolerate all of that. What I can't tolerate is people who think that there are different "internets." But I also find "I don't have the internet" to be extraordinarily annoying. What they really mean is "I don't have access to the internet."

yeah - I know someone who said "all pcs have the web"

a. not true
b. you don't have the web - just a connection

I get annoyed by people using the definitive article [ie, "the"] before the word 'computer'. I guess it is correct English, though for some reason it get's on my nerves...people saying they dont know how to 'work the computer' as if it was a diety of somesort. =/

And agreed, 'logging on' a website is another... 'downloading a webpage' [As in just viewing it; not saveing it to hard disk] is too.

ahaha, i guess it is just user-ese (^_^)

Actually, downloading a webpage is actually correct. It just doesn't get stored permenantly.

Personally, I only find these things annoying when they're actually wrong.

also, one thing i get really annoyed with are films that are incorrect when to refering to computers etc.... Also people who call up there ISP asking why "The internet isnt working" or "i'd like the internet please" they should be shot.

I hate it when movies\tv shows try to "talk tech". Generally they just ramble off a bunch of gibberish throwing a "megabyte" or "cpu", etc. around in the whole mess. It sounds real stupid

yup, thats right, it reminds me of a film i saw with someone writing a virus on a gameboy using the A and B buttons, with no other software... they just havent got a clue...

Aye... I heard of a stupid animated [children] show where like they try to stop the 'evil' hacker and as I recall there was a maternal charactor called 'motherboard'...

And what about the fact that whenever they do something on a computer in one of these shows it makes all sorts of Atari-like beeping noises. Drives me insane . [addsig]

Um, what o_O? They don't work particularly well, but they most definately exist. I'll provide links if you don't believe me.

They'll never beat my encryption. 3 encoding methods in one, and it still can be en/decrypted w/o a PC.
