Why do you want to learn Basic? Maybe you could read http://www.hprog.org/fhp/LearnProgramming before answering.

Why not let the kid learn BASIC? You even started with BASIC! (I read your Gallery of Days Gone By.)

Because things better than BASIC exist now but did not exist, were unknown or not mature 10 years ago.
I started with BASIC too but that was before I joined TPU and before I was even aware of Internet. In a world were informations and options are plenty, BASIC is not a wise choice.

lol choose whatever the bloody heck ya want.
personally, i started with C; and iv quite liked it. java, fortran, objective-c, c++ are all some other langs that are good, but probly for the quite intuitive beginner...
many beginners quite swear by python...personalyl, i didnt liek it too much, but thats just me. ruby is similer, but i like it better...its also true OOP.
sooo, choose whichever language you want...learn a bit about them, and choose one that fits yur wants the most. good luck! (^_^)

I've read a bit about Ruby and it seems good too. It's just not as common. I tend to forget about it.

Ahhh, okee. In Japan it's more widely used than Python [But since it was made there, that makes sense...]

Hmmm...
I think it should be in DOS.
I am not too firmiliar with Windows.

The Windows 95\98 CDs have it. x:\Tools\oldmsdos where x: is your CD drive. Otherwise, just do a google on qbasic 4.5 download. I've found it a few times.

Hmm...
I always thought one started Qbasic by using the MS-Dos prompt...

Sorry, yes it is a DOS thing. But, you can put an icon on your desktop.
