are you?

I don't think so - however, they are thinking seriously about it. And not only moving their servers, but also using it on the desktop for the deputees.

If you think that is a good idea and everything, go sign the petition at www.bundestux.de

yeah, they're still only thinking about it... I mean, it can't be that a parliament is dependent on a company that is inside itself... anyways, I think the french parliament already did the switch on linux... not sure tho...
anyways, _if_ the german parliament switches to linux, windows will be doomed

Yeah... And if Italy starts using Java (which is called the MS killer, by some), they're really screwed!

Someone should make a logo for Java, the "MS Killer" make it with a gun and stuff, I am bored... nevermind.

I'm Italian-Irish(I live in Ireland), cool, if my Italia starts using Java, they are screwed!

I dunno if Italy uses Linux for their governmental stuff.

Maybe I'll persuade Italy to use Java?

Thanks...

no, it's simple:
If a parliament switches from one OS to another, the companies that work tightly together with the parliament will have to switch too, to keep things easy. And, if the parliament switches, many other companies will maybe also start thinking about it.

Cool, today I read that some other german institutions are going to switch to Linux as well. Like the police of Niedersachsen which is going to save about 20 Mio. Euro in the next ten years with that step. Also the city of Munich is considering a switch. They have to pay about 4,5 Mio. Euro per year for Microsoft's licenses...An easy decision in my opinion. wow, that's kinda much... I could _never_ pay that

KaGez: hehe, nobody expects you too . although that is tax money, it's not one single person paying it.

Hmm, I think paying 4,5 Mio. per year or not _is_ an issue. [addsig]

nobody said that it isn't :/
peter just said that it's taked from the taxes of _many_ ppls, so I don't have to pay it alone ...

Hmm...about 80 Mio. people live in germany. 4,5 Mio. Euro make about 5-6 Cent for everybody...And I don't think that every german pays for the city of Munich... [addsig]
