Okee, I started looking around at different OS' and am thinking of trying FreeDOS. I was actualy quit suprised at the vast amounts of free software for DOS.
But I was wondering a few things about it, and DOS in general, like will it run windows comand line compilers, like Borland C/C++ 5.5 [Free version], Salford Fortran 77 [PE] compiler, Turbo Pascal 5.5, ect? And in general will programs for Windows that are command line based run in DOS?
Also, how stable and secure is DOS? Like theres alot about Win not being secure or as stable [Well, XP is quit a bit stabler] as UNIX based, is this true of DOS as well?
Oh, and my last question, what kinds of DOS GUIs are there? I know when I used Win95 that it had something called "Buttons for DOS", and I aslo here of Seal.
Well, thanx for answering my many DOS based questions!

16 bits (2 times 8 bits in a row), plain, single-tasking and real-mode DOS won't run Windows command line compiler or any 32 bits programs at all...
There is no real reason to use that OS anymore unless you have an old computer ([ This Message was edited by: Neu[Mann] on 2002-10-10 11:48 ]
