The bubbling cauldron >> For all memebers who have joined in the last couple of months!

Please remember that a major, if not the main part of this community is our IRC channel, #ypn on irc.freenode.net (Those of you who haven't heard of irc, go to http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/new2irc.html adn get a client from www.mirc.com). In ye olden days, there was far more activity in the channel than in the forums, and it worked well that way. As the new generation here, you have the responsibility to respect the wishes of the elders (the old memebers who built this organisation), that have left and popped in again occasionally to see how it has flourished in their absense. They have explicitly stated that they want you in the irc channel, and question why you are not already.

Personally, I much prefer forums, because you have more time to write a good quality answer, and you can see what people have posted previously, rather than having the same conversations repeated often. I also generally don't have the opportunity to use chatrooms as often, because I'm busy (at least for now) and would end up leaving every five minutes anyway. But I'll try to come there more often anyway. At least if the rest of the admins say what you're saying is their intent also.

No need to exaggerate, nobody is forcing you to come on irc It's just very nice, YPN pretty much always "ran" on irc. IRC is all cozy and nice, and you get to know many fellow addicts

The solution to having to leave all the time is simple: You let your irc client run in the background. Of course, if you're a real irc, that means /always/, as your computer is /always/ on anyway, right?

I shut mine down at night . Also, you'd have to have a DSL or cable line to have IRC constantly running (not everyone has one ) [addsig]

hm, that's true

I dont't do it anymore, either, anyway. I was used to sleeping with the noise of the fans, but they suddenly became louder a few months ago, then I had summer vacation where I got used to silence in the night again ... And I don't really need it anyway

I run on 56k.

Also, please stay more than 30 seconds after the first hello

IRC users rarely ever do 1 thing at the same time.

IRC is horrible. Most of the people on IRC practically live there. IRC is like the gathering of the losers.

Speak for yourself, keni. I got the report about your recent trolling on the channel. [addsig]
Posted by DInsane on 09:29:00 10-13-2003
I've never stopped there, due to IRC problems. But, I guess I should figure that out soon. [addsig]

If you are going to have the balls to say something to me, have the balls to let me reply or that just makes you a hypocritical coward.

Intiniti, we are not debating whether it is their time or not, we are debating that what they do with their time is not constructive, thus it makes them losers. They could be studying, playing sports, talking with real-life friends, or even television. I already mentioned this to you on IM, repeating it over is not necessary.

Dinsane, why add something when the topic is locked? It has ended. Is it a place to help? A handful of people just give idiotic and caustic remarks to people who need help. Look up the IRC logs, there are plenty on the internet that includes the dumbest quotes possible.

Dxprog, stop locking threads. Most people at YPN find this annoying. They may not admit it, but through Instant Messenger, people have admitted this. You are not helping by constantly locking threads that you don't enjoy.

It is well known that IRC is a gathering place for idiots.

Hmmm, I guess that makes you an idiot. I think that's enough from you on this topic.

Sorry, dxprog, had to add something.

keni, gathering place for losers? I don't think so. It's not just where people can gather to help each other, it's where they can also talk. Can't anybody get that?

ItinitI here:
Sorry, DInsane, had to add something, and didnt feel like the hassle of posting it myself

Okee, so, Ken, people on IRC my be a bit idle with their time, but that's the key, it's _their_ time, therefore they can do essentialy whatever they want with it. It's pointless for you to continue on about their personal practisess, especialy when it doesnt concern you.
