I'm from germany, too, but I don't really see any reason to speak german here. Mostly because I'm always annoyed by people speaking languages I don't understand. If you really want to speak to some people in german you can always use private messaging. But usually I'd say that people post to this forum to be understood by _all_ members. And english is simply the lang all people in here understand (at least basically).

exactly that's the point.
There are quite some german speaking people in here, but I'm also always annoyed when for example robert speaks his swedish in the chan, so I try to avoid speaking japanese as much as possible too. I oly talk japanese with jasonkb in the chan when I really know that nobody else is there.

nothing is bad about it, it is just dumbm because it has no use. I guess Robert did not say much more than "Guten Tag. Wie geht es Dir?". So, just post english. As you can understand what we write here it should not be a problem for you to speak english as well.

and, robert does _not_ speak german. He may have learned it in school, but only a little bit, like, as mox sayd, stuff like "Guten Tag" and that sort of things.
Posts on the messageboard, except private messages, are to be posted in english, or deleted.

Hrm... KaGez isn't polite, but he's right. I try to greet people in their native language, that's all. If nobody else is around, I might speak some Swedish with swedes, but that's it. This forum is however English to 100%. Speaking German will result in a very painful death.

my english was also kinda bad when I came to the YPN, but I'm writing in english everyday (almost), or read english documents all day, so by now it isn't as bad as it was before. OK, my english is not that of a native speaker, but I think my english got heaps better than before

Heh, since I left school my english got worse day by day. And I blame it (at least partly) on the english I got used to in irc chans and mboards. It's just that you can speak the worst english ever there but people will understand you nevertheless...
