Linux >> Debian problems

I installed Debian
The installer couldn't set up my dynamic IP, as usual
LILO was installed without whining about the more-than-blabla-cylinder-number thing (as my drive is UDMA, I can't use LBA or LARGE mode... Mandrake solved the problem though). But LILO didn't make a menu item for windows, apparently, it was supposed to install fully later.
LILO and some other packages failed to install due to unexplained reasons.
I ran xf86config and configurated the mouse & screen. I tried to start x but it appeared my screen "couldn't be found" as the config was "of no use" (?!?).
LILO was still scandisking me up, so I had to fdisk /mbr from a win start disk . And I didn't have a Debian boot disk, so I'll have to install it over again.

Now, fsvara, I really miss you .

ps. I'm gonna download the GeForce2 drivers and that shit yes...

er...
debian is not supposed to create an entry for windoze in the lilo menu. you gotta do that by hand, /etc/lilo.conf. Remember, debian will not do anything for you automatically, except for stuff you'll never notice it has done which will probably save your life without you noticing it.

for the harddisk-freak-udma-lba-blah thing: no idea. i dun even know what your problem is.

For your xf86config: edit your X11 config file by hand, if you've got a geforce2 that's easy, you'll be able to copy most from KaGez.

Hey, thanks!

Well, here's the deal: I've heard that older BIOSes doesn't support you booting from a partition that's beyond cylinder number 1000-something... New BIOSes do - but I can't set my drive to the right mode as it's not recognized as an IDE drive but as UDMA. Well it seems to work anyhow, LILO fixed it.

Hm, where's KaGez btw? gotta have that stuff .

Oh man, it feels good that Debian isn't automatic like Mandrake...

Sometimes BIOS-vendors provide BIOS-updates.. You could check out your vendor's homepage. But if it works it's OK.
Debian seems to be a real *male* ;)) distro.

Have a nice time!

Hehe, my computer was bought this year so the BIOS shouldn't be outdated.

Debian a male distro? I thought Slackware was the distro of choice for the masochists among us. ;b

(Or Linux From Scratch, even.)

But if you work with Debian for a time you sometimes think that you want to have this or that automated I for example want to code , and not spend days just to set up my system . Sometimes it's funny to set all that stuff up by hand , but after the 3rd or 4th re-install it gets kinda boring . Anyways , at the moment I love my debian sys =D
