Okee, I think maybe my modem is a real modem [Why? Well, I took it out, and found a secret code on it. I 'googled' the code, and came up with places trying to sell the modem for like 90$, and I thought that was kinda high for a winmodem, so I thought maybe is was a real modem in the first place and just not configured. Maybe my theory is incorrect??] and is just not configured.
SO, first off, how do I figure out what ttySx its at?? I put ttyS1 during the installation when it asked what com port. [I think]. BTW, I'm using TurboLinux.
Second, when I try minicom, it doesn't show what I type in, or either it won't accept what I type in, or if it does, it just shows "."s and yen signs.
Eh, keep in mind, I have no documentaions, or manuels for any of the hardware, so if I sound vague that's why.
ThanX! Help much appreciated!!

first you should try to find out the vendor of the card.
After that, try to find out the chip used on that modem (since linux drivers are mostly designed to work with specific chips rather than devices). When you've got that, compile a kernel supporting the given chip, and everything should start working. That's only for the driver tho
You'll still need to set up ppp and stuff, but I have no idea about this, since i've never used a modem under linux.
Another great site, which could give you great support is

Almost everything documented about linux

domo arigato KaGezsan!!
Okee, I think the modem is made by IBM, or either is generic. The largest chip on it says Lucent. Is there any program that can identfy the or help identify the chip?
I think I can handle the PPP with kppp ect, it didn't seem real different than Windows.
thanx!

I think Lucent only makes winmodems... I'm not too sure tho, but I think Lucent is one of the most famous for creating winmodems... correct me if I'm wrong, please
Maybe checking out linux-winmodem sites wil help you.

Eh, shouldn't be no more modem post from me. I found a smashing fine deal on a controller based modem [Modem Blaster by Creative Labs] at the local BX for only 35$ w/ 25% off. All I had to do was adjust the IRQ and COM settings on it to COM1 and plug it in, then use Kppp to set it up. [Eh, got errors first, so I installed Slackware, then Red Hat, then I finally went back to Turbolinux and got it to work].
