to make HTML you don't need _anything_ more than a text editor and a browser... even a text-based browser will do it... why not just use Frontpage ?

because it lollipops?
But seriously, I've tested a number of editors (both WYSIWYG and other) and I'm still pleased with notepad/emacs..

because frontpage is shit!

because these editors are shit... I'm more than happy with my Gedit (or notepad), and I won't use anything else anymore... I'm just tired of the "buggy" HTML code that those damned programs create... you spend more time to find those than you would need to write it all by hand.

Dreamweaver seems to generate clean code, it can even clean up after Word . But I still dislike WYSIWYG... it's.. it's...

Dreamwaever is far the best out there, but my dear editor still is better

afaik the coffeecup thing is not any more a wysiwig editor than vim with some macros is...
last time i checked it's deifferences from a "normal" editor were just syntax highlighting (which vim has out of the box) and some pre-made javascript for various purposes... nothing all too special

I agree with svara. CoffeeCup is not really a wysywig editor. It's an html-editor meaning that you get syntax highlighting plus some aids like closing tags after opening them etc. Personally, if I'm trapped on windows, I use Uli Meybohms Html-editor. Very, very cool and it was one of the programs which taught me html in the first place. Meybohm has released a lot of free software btw, check meybohm.de

i say to people not to use frontpage, just becuase it doesnt give that clean, professional look to your site, mostly becuase the lack of table support, you cant really create a title at the top, menu at the side, and text in teh middle that easily, unlike something like dreamweaver, but thats expensive... i say use yahoo page builder if u r a beginer and not willing to learn html, its simple and gives a quite good affect using layers...

I used to use that, but you don't get the control you get with tables (at least the last version I used).
