I think yu guys shouldn't drop that idea, think about how great that would be! source-code napster
What prolly happened was that you guys got lost in the details like GTK and how to make it portable. What has to be discussed first is WHAT are you programming anyway. I suggest you guys have an IRC-meeting to get this all sorted out

Me, Fabs and Robert have talked a bit about it and I think the idea is great. Robert will probably tell you what we said there... He's a cool project handler . See ya later

hhhmmm ... robert also asked me about what functions for e.g. it should contain , and I think that that project will never be finished ... quote :
btw
*robert wats to reinvent the wheel some times
I hope you all know what this means ....
let's give you my suggestions (that robert didn't like too much) :
1. A little texteditor with sytax hilight for the most common languages (C/C++, Java, Perl, PHP ......)
2. Maybe a little browser (based on gecko) , cuz it's annoying to open a browser every time you get a link from somebody else ...
3. A little 3d demo with the credits (look at winamp for more details)
that was the stuff I suggested .... I could halp ya with the 3rd one , but robert told me that he doesn7t wanna have that ....
hope it helped you a bit further ...

Well, I like to reinvent the wheel sometimes too, I think programming is about achieving things yourself... Well, the first two are cool, the third isn't really necessary but we COULD have it .

Peter: if you come online next time , tell me why you thought that the stuff (1.+2.) is cool . just wanted to know , cuz robert said that he doesn't think so ... so I can hear both sides
but , only if it is possible , or if you want to do so I'm not forcing anybody to do anything ...

Well, the texteditor and the browser are useful features. But those are far from primary, as we all know.. I don't know what gecko is though.

gecko is the mozilla rendering engine, and it's really fast on its own, as you can see in the galleon browser.

fsvara already said the most .
Gecko is the rendering engine of Mozilla , but all the mozilla stuff aroud it makes it so slow ... I think it's even faster than Opera (which is VERY fast) . But , I've used it only some times , so I can't say how it is now ... just give it a try =)
