anyways i am trying to get a group of experienced programmers together to help me make a game. I am trying to learn c++ so i might not be doing much at first but i am a fast learner and hope to be able to "jump on that part of the band wagon soon" meanwhile i will work on other parts that dont require programming.

Would you like to explain to us why someone should join your project instead of starting his own? I don't see any evidence that you have anything valuable to add to a team. "Gamer and dreamer" seems to an extremely popular desired position these days, despite being next to useless. Also, it would take you years to become proficient enough in programming to actually contribute to something on the scale you are probably imagining.

P.S.: The links on that web site point to the browser's local hard drive....

You don't even know C++ and you want to make a GAME? woah dude... you'll get knowhere.

Don't you understand? He's had all these "cool ideas" while playing games, and he wants to e-mail you a few descriptions of "cool features" and have you write a game with him listed as the "project leader"! =D =D =D

ive been programming for around a year and a half, mainly vb for the first year or so after which i could only make some very basic games(tic tac toe, pong) then i started working hard on learning c/c++ and for about 3 months ive been learning how to use directx with c/c++.. ive made a few more games using c/c++ and directx - snake, space invaders and breakout.

i have a few game ideas of my own that im going to make then im either going to work on a big game to hopefully drag me into the game dev world, get me noticed etc or i may start learning direct3d and work on a basic 3d engine so i can start 3d game dev.

bottom line - it is possible to learn everything you need to make a game pretty damn fast

I wish I had a version of C that would link DirectX stuff of mine. [addsig]

Yeah, dxprog, that's too bad that you can't just download some of the freely available software on the Internet to do that.

Well let's see. I've tried the Borland Free Compiler and it won't work, I've tried lcc32 and it't doesn't work. I can't find DJGPP for download anywhere and I don't have the money to buy a book that has it on the CD-ROM. I'm running out of options here. [addsig]

Okay, I take that back. I remember why I didn't download DJGPP, last time I tried it I was on AOL which I couldn't download stuff from FTP sites. I'll give it a whirl this Saturday I guess. [addsig]

Wait... dxprog! ur a dxprog but you cant program DirectX????? That just doesnt make sense!
Posted by dxprog on 23:55:00 02-26-2003
I program DirectX in VB. Not to mention when I registered with YPN I was doing quite a bit of Dx stuff, now it seems I'm more in the webdev business. Back to the subject, it seems that every time I try to do anything Dx related in C I always come up with one of those darn unresolved externals even with my own classes. [addsig]

The appropriate choice is one of the Windows gcc ports. See http://www.bloodshed.net/

Thanks . I think I've seen this one before too. [addsig]

Hehe.. if that doesnt work, u can always use VC++
Posted by dxprog on 23:10:00 02-28-2003
I don't have the money to bey VC++. Not to mention the only version avaliable is VC.net and I don't have the NT based OS to run it. [addsig]

directX? ewwww, openGL for life

If you're looking to make games for the public or work for any big company do you think that they're going to use OpenGL? [addsig]
