I think au also works. But it has to be one of those formats because IE can only play those. Anyway, the whole bgsound thingy is totally incompatible, only works in IE There's a way in netscape, too, though...
But screw it, nobody likes sounds on the web anyway

I don't know about your techno, but I don't recommend background sounds as they are damn annoying and people do not like them (take it from me, the self-titled IT expert ) but if you wanna have sound on the site, make it optional instead (push the button to hear sound).
