Ok, we should assemble the following teams for now and find people to administrate them:
Web/SasQuatch development:
This team will work on the SasQuatch-Engine itsself and it'll be doing everything concerning the website building the system all other teams will be using.
The website is written in php/mysql and currently we have 3 developers in this team:
KaGez, Peter and myself.
Basic/VB-Team:
We have a lot of Basic programmers btw. This team is currently being administarted by adavus who is sleeping at current writing Anyway, he'll be assembling the team tomorrow. If you want to join it (or receive some more info on it), please e-mail him and CC the message to me. Thanks
Currently: adavus
C/C++ Team:
Basically, the tasks are the same as above. We currently have no team AND no admin so if you're intrested in doing this, tell us all on this board
I'm gonna ask to be a team-member but since I'm already doing the All-round planning, I thought there should be somebody else doing the C/C++ administration.
Assembler-Team:
Well, I asked robert to do this but he's told me it's a rather hopeless situation. Well, we'll just see. If you're an asm-addict and want to spread the religion of asm, make sure you join this team!
Gnu/Linux-Team:
Yep, we should have one simply because Linux is the #1 OS in this community and it's really worth talking about. I figure svara will take the administration of this team
Yep, that's it from me for now. Make sure you comment on it And of course, join a team and start coding

i just thought that we could make a lessons. like things for nebies whoi wants to learn some lang and are kind of to lazy to look for info. lesson should include some good software(compilers, interpreters) tutorials, manuals, and so on.... what do you think?
Posted by fabs on 12:39:00 02-02-2002
yeah, that would be great!
We could arrange IRC-lessons and such
This could also be the section-admins job.

ok, the idea is good, and we also had this before (IRC lecture), but it died away, most probably because of the lack in interest. but the YPN has grown quite much since then, so we should maybe start it again. The best method would be to do a IRC lecture and upload the logfile so that everybody can have a piece of it
how about that?

irc lestions is a crap. we can add some thingies accesabple through irc. but lessons - nooooo..... for example i would imagine asm lessons as:
1.list of compilers. descriptions and offer which one to use.
2.few best books about it.
3. places to find interput lists
4. forums for newbies
5. data for advanced programers, like OS programing.

we should start the ai section.
i vote for nonama to be the admin.
i also suggest me to be the co-admin. (hehe)
[since our ai project can't be realized with only two of us. we need more people to get interested in ai and join our project. and the best way is a good ai section. i will offer my best, so will nonama, so give us the section, and wish us luck]

ok people listen to this :
I agreed with fabs to make the HARDWARE SECTION.
now this section should provide programmers with resources about:
1) how the computer works
2) how each part of the computer works
3) problems that occur, and how they are solved
4) anything else that i forgot to mention.
So people that are interested please post it here or e-mail me.
--------------------------------------------
we will have
1) general hardware (explained above)
2) programming hardware (which should work together with asm section )

I know this post belongs in the Linux section, but since you posted saying Linux is the #1 OS of this community.... Why not offer free limited shell accounts, so people can learn about it?
Posted by KaGez on 14:40:00 02-02-2002
Mintegra: good idea, but not realizeable with only this host (34sp.com). Maybe fabs can make a shell acount for those who want to learn how to use a shell on his PC
noname: you could do that all in IRC lectures too, and, if there are Qs you can ask them directly if it's over IRC. over IRC it's just _way_ more flexible, and that's why I still suggest IRC lectures.

well hopefully, in few weeks i will have 2Mb download(i pay for) and 20Mb(apsolutly free) upload connection, that would be online 24/7.
so i was thinking bout starting a big fserv avaiable only for ypn members.
any suggestions?

Who says I was talking about running it on this host? I was talking about a member that is a Linux guru.
BTW, I am not really interested in this, I just thought it would be a good idea.

i've given shell accounts to some members whom i trust on my linux machine, but i wont do it in a more general way. simply for the matter of security.. i guess most others that could give out accounts agree with me...

I could help with the hardware section.
However, everyone who's interested in helping don't need to be admins for that. Admins are just those who are responsible for the activity and content of the sections.
fsvara: can't you limit the acces somehow?
Posted by fabs on 00:29:00 02-03-2002
yes, of course. As said, there is one admin per section.

fsvara: just set the group access lever _very_ low, so they'll be unable to break anything, unless you've got some suid progs running that have security holes
[addsig]
Posted by fsvara on 10:49:00 02-03-2002
of course VERY limited access is possible, but well, there is no such thing as a "secure system".
Then, there's not only my box. I have backups, so if somebody breaks everything it wouln't be too bad, but i have vulnerable windoze boxen on the lan, too... and those are not even mine, so id get into a lot of trouble if something happened to them
Posted by KaGez on 14:22:00 02-03-2002
lol, that's why windows sux full of those holes (aka "security holes"). I think it won't get better in _any_ future windows version

I'm interested in the Gnu/Linux team...
Im new to Linux(I used it since november 2001), but I have good experience
Posted by MoX on 19:11:00 02-14-2002
I would definitely like to join the C/C++ section. I would even like to become Admin there, but I think stuff like IRC-lessons (I actually don't know how they should work) is a bit too time-consuming.
Posted by dxprog on 01:35:00 02-15-2002
I say there should be a games section. Also what happend to adavus? I got an e-mail asking if I would like to join the VB team and I haven't heard back from him yet.
Posted by ComWizz on 12:14:00 02-15-2002
A Games section would be cool. Anyway, I think IRC-lessons is a god idea, maybe there should be a special date, where #ypn starts a lesson of some sort.
Eg: March 12th 2002 - 2 pm - C/C++ Basics, etc
Posted by moondude on 13:06:00 02-15-2002
to the top:
good idea and its cool
Posted by KaGez on 14:09:00 02-15-2002
whoever is organizing the Linux team (probably svara), I'd like to join it too

if we needa linux team, i think i could put it together
but i dunno really what that team would do...
Posted by ComWizz on 15:38:00 02-15-2002
Yeah, I'd love to join(or be admin of) the Gnu/Linux team.
I'm glad I got Gnu/Linux, it's really good for programmers, and most software for it is free(as in "free beer").
Linux is such as solid OS, that I never get errors(but my PC does freeze rarely, but I don't think that's Linux's fault).
I'm still trying to get my Thundercom 336 TV modem to work.
Anyway, the Gnu/Linux team should post up tutorial of diffirent kinds.

actually, most software is free (as in freedom).
Posted by ComWizz on 15:46:00 02-15-2002
Yeah, I know that. But I haven't seen much software which you pay for(except for Gnu/Linux itself)
Posted by fsvara on 15:48:00 02-15-2002
you pay for gnu/linux?
you pay for suse linux, redhat linux, madrake linux or wahtever, but not for gnu/linux.
Posted by ComWizz on 15:50:00 02-15-2002
Sorry, I mislead you, I payed for Mandrake.
Posted by dxprog on 16:06:00 02-15-2002
I would be more than willing if you need someone to admin the VB section or a game section.
Posted by IbYdI on 16:14:00 02-15-2002
/me would like to be active in AI,vb,c++ section.
and where is adavus?
we had a chat session where i explained how classes work, then he said that he's going to assemble the team.
and disappeared?

he was in #ypn sometimes but i didn't see him for a few days...
imho for a channel "leader" somebody who's there 80% of the time would be better suited...
Posted by IbYdI on 18:50:00 02-15-2002
hehe, and whose there 80% of the time except you, kagez, fabs, robert... ?

Posted by dxprog on 20:50:00 02-15-2002
I'm not on the channel, but I'm on the site several times a day.
Posted by fsvara on 21:30:00 02-15-2002
ibydi: hmm, good question perhaps say "who is there often" instead of "80% of the time"...
Posted by KaGez on 07:06:00 02-16-2002
and there are also many other there also 99.8-100% of the time... like jasonkb, JadraX and other, they are in the chan only tho.
