Barnes & Nobles is having a huge sale. There are programming books like 65% off. I was gonna go pick up a book on Pascal, and one on webdesign. Anyone reccoment any good books?

If you don't know HTML well, buy a html reference. If you wanna step further, buy a book concentrated on design matters or some PHP book... or something

Joe Burns books are very good:

I know HTML, and some ASP. I am not good at creating designs though.

If you're asking me, and I bet Peter also agrees, the best way to learn webDESIGN is to just surf the web and take a look at some nice designs. Once you find cool ones, take a look at how they are coded and maybe try to code some own templates.

It is a way yes. A good one too. Somehow you need to be able to judge websites out there. Either you just get the touch or you learn somewhere.

i know one: HTML for Dummies

ah, well, I'm not so satisfied with the "For Dummies" -books. They are kind of funny but really, they are not especially easy or anything, other books might as well call themselves "For Dummies". But anyway, Sams Teach Yourself are pretty good fro learning, well that's my personal opinion. Oreillys are heavy reading If you really wanna learn something deep however, they are good, very good!

I would sugest:

HTML
The Definitive Guide

by O'Reilly & Associates, Inc.
(It has a koala on the cover)
it has a lot of basics but some more advanced info as well, it's also good if something ever slips your mind you're working on a webpage [addsig]

I learned HTML off of websites (mostly). A good book is HTML for Dummies or HTML By Example. [addsig]

I learned HTML when I was like 10 or 11 years old. My dad was kinda into HTML that time, so I learned it too

Wow! That's my exact story. I learned HTML about a year ago (when I was 9 1/2) and my dad was into it a little and I always wondered what it all meant, so I learned it. Now, I think of it as just typing as if I where typing English. Java 2 also was weird at first. But now when I go to my command prompt I think of it as a chatroom with the computer... [addsig]
