Projects >> An idea for a new project...

I have an idea for a new project, my idea was to make several utilities for the UNIX shell, especially for shell coders.
Anyone interested? I've done a little coding for this project...

what's wrong with the GNU tools? I defy anybody to show me a task that cannot be done, in some way or the other, with bash and the gnu tools )

hm, I think svara's true with that statement :/
that doesn't change the fact that it is fun to code tho

I'm not saying that the GNU tools are bad.
The GNU tools rule! They are good, because if the GNU tools didn't exsist,
some other programmers would need to make the same tools(ls, mv, etc).

I'm just suggesting, that maybe we could make misc shell programmer-oriented tools.
(Though GNU already have those their own shell tools)

I understand what you are saying fsvara, but my idea was to make tools which GNU haven't thought up of.

well, the strength of the shell is that you can combine tools to accomplish virtually any task... but, do you have ideas for "tools they haven't thought of" already?

I made two tools already,

(1) A tool to create a timed pause between shell commands
(2) A tool to give output to a file(this can be done with ---> echo "Hi!" --> ./blab, but I think my tool has a little extra feature).

The pause tool(as far as I know) is not yet create by GNU

pessimist as always? heh...

when have i been a pessimist before? and what do my comments about the project have to do with pessimism?

you would probably not afford costs of bandwitch and data storage if i list them svara.

look, all i said was that i think the gnu apps offer all you need for shell programming already, and i asked comwizz what kind of stuff he had in mind.
Where's the "pessimism" in there?

I didn't say anything like "You won't be able toc ode it anyway" or something, so please...
