true ... AMD processors are not _that_ famous (they are tho), but they are really better. My 1.0GHz Athlon works as fast as a Intel Pentuim IV 1.3GHz. Seriously! Just go try it out if you don't belive me....

90% of slashdot freaks would defend AMD in the hardest flamewar
I am quite ignorant about hardware i must admit, and i have an intel pentium 3, but i find the amd's to be extremely popular about the more computer-literate crowd

I'm also ignorant, I just said that AMD is only better (and cheaper!), but I also like Intel. Intel CPUs are better if you do SMP. ok, there exists something like SMP for AMD processors too, but it's still far away from the level of intel's SMP. I just use AMD because it's cheaper!

I am an AMD fan. Intel lollipops.
I like their old processors though... 80486 for instance!

if we wouldn't have Inten, where would the PC be today?

AMD is the best!
a AMD ATHLON XP 1600+ is almost as fast as a Intel Pentium IV 2 GHz!
i've got much AMD processors:
a 286 16MHz, a 386SX 40 MHz, 386DX 40 MHz, 486DX2 66 MHz and a K7 Duron 'Spitfire' 750 MHz. and i've got 3 Intel processors (2X 486SX 25/33MHz and 1X 486DX2 66MHz)

we got 4 intel processors and 1 AMD @ our home (233 PII in my dad's desktop, 2x 466 in my bro's desktop and my 2nd machine, 866 PII in my dad's note, 1G Athlon in my primary machine)

I have (also) an AMD (K6/3D NOW) 400Mhz.
My brother has a PII 350Mhz. This PII 350 scores higher in Q3 then my AMD (My AMD has even more Ram then this PII)!!!
Wel one goot thing has this AMD Microprocessor, 3D now technology

AMD didn't really get on the ball til they released the athlon.
Posted by KaGez on 01:17:00 01-07-2002
but AMD itself (not the processors) sux! With AthlonXP they want to 100%ly support M$ with it's WinblowzXP. They even want to work together. That's what I really hate about AMD, they're brainwashed my M$ .... bah ...

Well, they're still far better than Intel, who are Microsoft's equalient in the hardware world, the same fascistic, monopolistic attitude.
Posted by KaGez on 11:51:00 01-07-2002
there is 1 _major_ diff between M$ and intel:
M$ would _never_ do anything for Linux/OpenSource Community, and Intel did/does plenty of that

Yeah, but I would explain that difference with the fact that Intel is a hardware manufacturer and thus isn't in concurrence with the Free software/open source movement, while Microsoft is.
Posted by KaGez on 07:43:00 01-08-2002
I think that doesn't matter. It's neither Inters, nor my fault that M$ produces crappy software, so I only look at the fact what they do, and what they don't do.

Intel and M$ work together, marketing campaines etc, but AMD are trin to get into the main stream, But I will never own an Intel Product for the rest of my life, and will avoid using one as well, AMD just simply kicks Intels ass.

I have nothing against owning Intel products such as he 486-DX2 processor
