I think it would be a neat idea to decide who should/shouldn't become an admin/mod and their privilages through a test of programming skills and the ability to control a community. How this test would be devised, I have no idea, but it's a thought, at least(well, most actually ).

The problem is if the current admins turn out to have the lowest scores on programming knoweldge among candidates.

I already know your opinions on this matter from the spam I got from you...

I think watching people over a time is a good way to do it. I'd had my eye on ItinitI for a while.

It's also good to know about the skills of the person though, because answers of moderators are generally looked at as the best.

No test.
It would be just better if the admins watch for whoever is most helpful, and who contributes the most to the BBS and YPN.
That proves much more than a test.
A test doesn't show dedication and work, or what they have contributed to the community.

If course, the test would only be a supliment to that. Perhaps it could be used to choose which forum a person would moderate.

I think you don't need a test to see if somebody should be resposible for this or that forum. Let me explain why:
Actually, when I look for a new admin, I first take a look at the number of posts. The higher the number it usually means the longer this somebody was in the YPN, also, in most cases, it means that this somebody is able to help. Tho, the number of posts doesn't help me much. I only know if this guy posted a lot or not After that I take a look at who is active recently. Seeing the difference between active and not-too-active people isn't too hard at the YPN, so it's also a good way to pick somebody. Next would be the quality of the posts. Quantity alone is not enough. You can spam a lot, which won't make you admin or anything Anyways, if this somebody now turn out to be active, is able to help people with problems and is willing to do something for the YPN, and you have found this somebody, it is most likely that you already know very much about this somebody, because you've tracked him to his current point.
So you don't need a test or anything to tell what this guy is good at and what not.
Also a big criteria is, if this somebody isn't hated too much What would a hated admin be worth?
That's just how I choose new admins and the reason why I don't need any test for it. This may be something else in bigger communities where you don't know everybody

Geez, how did I become an admin then? I'm not sure if I'm too popular on the board at the moment

I'm really not trying to annoy anybody or "be difficult," but: visitors who don't acknowledge that you, KaGeZ, know enough about the subject of YPN wouldn't necessarily accept your admin-choosing procedure as adequate.

Smerdyakov, how are those Berkeley Bears doing in football?
State Schools have awesome football and basketball teams, don't you agree? A large majority of funding goes to it!
Go Bears!

Smerdyakov:
And I think it's completely ok like that, because you won't be able to choose a admin or understand how one is chosen if you don't know the site, because every site has different methods to choose admins
