General YPN >> Add more functionality to code section?
Posted by SilentStrike on 02:18:00 06-02-2001
Is it possible to make the code section handle multiple files easier? I don't know to have to DL a zip, unzip it, and then open up my compiler just to realize I have absolutely no clue as to what is going on in the source of a project.

Also, I do not know of any real good webserver to host zip files of my programming on, should I choose to upload.

It would be a lot easier to have a "upload multiple source file" option, so that one could more easily upload a few files of code (if they don't have webspace it would be easier at least) and easier for users to browse the code before deciding to take a serious look at it.

well, the problem is really space. We don't have a lot of megs, our bandwidth sux and we don't have that much money so we're pretty much stuck with this server. That's one of the reasons why we just submit links, so that we don't run out of space. What we could consider is getting a free server (that is free as in free beer) like digitalrice or so, and we could give you all access to that server to upload your files. However, malicious users could easialy hit the network by just erasing those files
So the conclusion was: until we get a better server, please register some webspace somewhere and upload your information there
I suggest digitalrice because they don't display any banners or so and they are still free
Thanx!

i would also recommend angelfire.com, since they give you 50 megs, or freeservers.com

Eh, I want to defend our .34sp.com server, now!
First of all, it offer great functionality, for the greatest price out there on the net.
Second, the bandwith is good, the pages load very fast.

The probelms we have, that is, too little webspace and transfer limitation, are real ones, though. They could be removed by paying more, but that's not easy. Should we really need it, I will consider paying for it, fabs, so you don't take all =)

Then, these problems are not too bad, as users can uplaod to their own servers.

Well, when I was saying bandwidth, I actually ment the bandwidth-limit (sorry about confusing that). The functionatily is great, no doubt, but dowtimes are pretty often. I think, once a week, which is not good. However, you're right, it's the best we can get for almost no money

yeah, but we're going to implement an upload function that makes it possible to upload to some of our other servers (telia). stay tuned! and btw, we can write zip tutorials and shit.. there is no other solution

well, we could have an extra server running a program with which people can upload stuff. We could use our old digitalrice-server because it is not possible to upload files from here to digitalrice ... actually, thinking about it, it is possible... but it would be simpler to have that little proggy running on the server directly... ah, let's just see. As soon as we have vacation again, we're gonna rock this somehow

Hypermart.net isn't bad . I got my HP over there , and it's VERY fast , I got 50MB of Webspace , unlimited bandwidth , and great services .
The only thing is , they don't offer any free services anymore But I think even then it's ceaper and better than 34sp.com

well well, i supposed hypermart doesn't have PHP, MySQL and cgi...

our 34sp supports more scripting languages than we'll ever know, we could write our cgis cripts in Python, or Tcl =)

Why can't you use 4nx2.com ?

I just posted an application to 4nx2.com. Hopefully they accept it.

i just found www.dk3.com they give unlimited webspace, php, and all that stuff... one prob: no file may be bigger than 2 megabytes... but u guys should check it out it gives u a subdomain

I would also recommend www.hostonfly.net, since they give you 100MB and cgi, php, mysql, telnet access, FTP...

lol, it would be interesting to make an applet to chop files into 2Mb files to store, the n reassemble when the 'file' is downloaded... (waste of time when there are better options, but...)

yeah, that'd be a sweet piece of program!

As said , I'd prefer Hypermart.net .... They got ALL . They support almost EVERY scripting lang ...
But , I got a better Idea ... This page'd do great on the sourceforge server =) We're a open-source community ( or not ?? ) , so they'll welcome us at sourceforge . And , the best thing is , SourceForge has the VEST tools and site management thingies of all
