Clannad the Motion Picture the Review

Nice try Toei..

If you were unfortunate enough to have sat through my top 5 anime video, you'll know that Clannad was pretty high up there on the list (number one, to be exact). To this day, I still consider it my favorite anime so when I wandered past a "Clannad - Motion Picture" DVD at Hastings, I had to rent it even though I knew it was going to be terrible.

I had no idea just how bad it was going to be. Ah, where to begin?

A Special Message from Nagisa

A Special Message from Nagisa

A little something something I made for achieving 5000 page views on my illustrious deviantArt profile.

Overall, I think this is probably one of my better ventures, though my brother says my art style is "lumpy". I cannot disagree. And hands? They're such a pain in the ass to draw. Like I was saying on the way into bowling last night, drawing would be so much easier if we had no hands and arms/legs were simple rectangles. The line art was traced over a screen grab, but all the coloring was done by me. I think I picked up a bunch of lighting/coloring tips as I was making this that I hope to incorporate into future arts.

Nagisa Furukawa and CLANNAD are owned by KEY.

Sub-note: The opening theme for After Story is one of the best pieces of music I've heard this year.

Fujibayashi Ryou and Furukawa Nagisa from the visual novel/anime CLANNAD (both thouroughly enjoyable).

This is a big step up for me being that there are TWO characters here. I managed to draw this within the same amount of time I generally draw one, so either I cut a lot of corners or I'm getting better. Also, I tried going for a softer style of shading which was, in my opinion, somewhat successful. Hair shading still throws me for a loop, but I'm getting better at everything else.

Characters and such are owned by KEY.
